Can anyone recommend which beach to go to? We figure we might as well see the ocean while we're down south!! THinking of driving to Daytona. Any other suggestion? Are there tolls between WDW and the coast? How long of a drive to Daytona from WDW?

We went to Daytona many years ago and were far from impressed. We probably chose the wrong area on the beach but it wasn't very nice where we ended up.

Cocoa Beach is lovely.

Whenever we want to spend a day at the beach we head west.
The only draw back is that it is about twice the distance as say Daytona. Now the good points. The west coast has some of the best rated beaches in the country. They are beautiful. We usually go to Clearwater beach or St. Petes Beach. There are miles and miles of white sandy beaches in the area to choose from. The other thing we like, having small children is that the waves are considerable smaller than on the East coast. Dolphins and Pelicans are often seen nearby. It is definitely worth the drive rather than drive to a place like Daytona where you share the beach with automobiles. Whats that all about.
Anyway, thats the opinion from someone that lives on the New England Seacoast.

f7prez, how long does it take to get to St. Pete? We went to Clearwater and it took about an hour and a half until we actually set foot on the beach, but St.Pete is farther south. I've been researching that area for our vacation next month and really like it. I also like the white sand compaired to the tan or brown sand. (it's a visual thing, I don't get it either. LOL) What I have read talks about unspoiled beaches. It really sounds great on the gulf!

The extra distance to St Petes Beach rather than Clearwater Beach from Tampa really isn't that significant, approximately 7 miles. Rather than following route 60 over to Clearwater you would head south on I-275.

Thanks so much!

I just wanted to add for OP that on the Gulf side they have all kinds of dolphin cruises you can go on, if your into that kind of thing. :)
