Beaches between Disneyland and Universal Studios

We are planning on going to the beach during our Disneyland trip and want to do a half day trip to a beach and then the other half at Universal Studios. I am having a hard time finding somewhere that is sort of convenient and a nice beach for kids (10, 10, 11 - all girls). There seem to be some nice ones, but I don't know which is best. Any ideas? Thanks.

We leave on Wednesday. I have to endure 2 more days at work, but I can do it. WOOHOO!!!!

Huntington is close and a very nice beach, but the route to USH is more inland veering away from the coast.

I know that Universal is more inland, but want something that is on the drive between them, but a beach. Does this make sense?

Something like Seal Beach, Long Beach, Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, or Santa Monica (I don't even know if there is a beach there). Thanks again.

We went last year in June to Universal and a Dodger Game. My husband wanted to go to the beach. We went to Santa Monica and it was a lot of fun. We have 2 boys. (4 and 12) They loved it. They had a few rides and games. We ate lunch at Bubba Gumps. There were not a lot of peolpe either.

There are no beaches on the drive from DL to USH. It would be difficult to spend 1/2 a day at USH and 1/2 a day at a beach on the same day just because of the amount of driving involved. Santa Monica would probably be your best bet.

If you are staying near DL, it would be easier to spend 1/2 a day at the beach (Huntington is our favorite) and the afternoon/evening at DLR. Then, USH could have it's own day. Your USH day could also include time at CityWalk and driving around Hollywood, if that is something that you and your family would like. You could still be back to Anaheim in time to enjoy an evening at DLR.

I know it is heresy to take away more time from DL , but I'm trying to think of a practical solution to your question.

Huntington beach is a beach and a very nice, clean beach. You listed Santa Monica, there is also Venice beach if you like to watch all sorts of people. I would go to USH in the am and then head for the beach after. We love USH and take a day everytime we come down. I use to live in Manhatten beach and Redondo.

Santa Monica would be way, way out of the way.

Huntington Beach and Seal Beach are probably your best bet because you are still below the 110 Freeway that can get you into L.A. to get to USH.

I think we are going to try Seal Beach. It is really just for the kids to play in the water and build some sand castles and us to have something to eat. It looks perfect. And the trip shouldn't be bad. Thank you everyone.
