I know that there are lots of fans of this great little diner out there, unfortunately, I can't be counted among them.

DH and stopped here for lunch on Friday, 11/08. We split a hamburger with onion rings and each ordered an ice cream dessert. Everything tasted wonderful, and we booth left happy and feeling comfortably full. We walked back to the Boardwalk, and headed to MGM.

A good 2 hours passed before we rode anything (ToT, and RnR), and then we went to catch the parade at 4. While waiting for the parade, I started to feel a little strange. I chalked it up to a little bit of hunger and planned to grab a snack after the parade. By the time the parade was over, about 4 hours had passed since lunch. I grabbed my husband and told him that I thought I must be getting really hungry because my stomach felt so weird. We went into a little counter service, and I sat down while he ordered. By the time Mike got to the table with the chicken fingers we were going to split, I knew I was not hungry, just all out nauseous. I walked outside for a minute, and then ran to a ladies room and became very very violently ill. I felt horrible for the other people in the bathroom because I know that when I hear someone getting sick, I become an incredible sympathy puker... sorry to those who suffer the same fate!

I got Mike and we went back to the hotel. I tried to put a stiff upper lip on it, but my wonderful hubby insisted that we go back to the hotel so that I could lay down.

I didn't get sick again, but just felt all around icky for several more hours. Mike started to feel really off once we got back to the hotel. He never wound up sick, just not well.

I have a feeling that something that we ate at Beaches and Cream was off. Most likely the hamburger was either not refigerated properly, or was a little past date. I can't imagine that anything in ice cream would cause this kind of illness. Luckily, the sick feeling passed within a few hours, so the interruption was fairly mild.

I am sure that this is the exception, and not the rule, but I wanted to make sure that I posted this experience so people know the pros and cons!

Thanks!
Erin :D

Seems to me that if you shared the meal - i.e., both ate the same thing - and it was the food at Beaches and Cream that made you sick, your husband would have been sick too.

I work in the medical field and when someone comes into the ER with symptoms that could be food poisoning, they always ask where and what they ate and if anyone else who ate the same thing at the same time also was sick. If other people ate the same thing and did not get sick, they assume it wasn't the food...

I sympathize with you. I've been ill on two different occasions at WDW. Just because one person didn't actually vomit doesn't mean they both didn't have a touch of food poisoning. Some people have different tolerances to stomach ailments. I could see you becoming ill if there was spoiled whipped cream on your ice cream dessert.

I should add my mom ate breakfast one day and a few hours later rode TOT and RnRC. She felt awful (didn't get sick) for the rest of the day but chalked it up to riding the rides.

I recall reading another thread (see link below) about Beaches And Cream and cross contamination. The poster mentioned the server using the same latex gloves to handle raw burgers and customers orders.

Not Beaches and Cream too! Sorry to hear the food made you sick. I just read that someone else got sick at 1900 park fare too.

NASTY!! I am sorry that you had this experience...I've eaten there and really liked it. When I was 11, I got food poisioning from "King Stefan's Table" at Cinderella's Castle. Talk about a dinner that my family will never forget:rolleyes:

Food poisoning takes a good 12-24 hours to surface....Think what you ate in that time period.

First of all, thanks for the sympathy! It's never fun to get sick, let alone while on vacation!

Actually though, there are some misconceptions here about food poisoning. There are different kinds, and some take longer than others to appear. S. Aureus or B. Cereus will typically cause illness between 2-12 hours after the meal, whilst symptoms of Salmonella or Clostridium Perfringens usually develop between 12-24 hours afterwards. Also, my husband weighs about 60lbs more than me, so the same amount of bacteria will affect us differently. I'm not a dr or nurse, but my mom is a trauma nurse (35 years) and I called her as soon as Mike started to feel sick, too (I wanted to make sure we didn't need any medical attention). Of course her answer, "Erin, I'm in NY. What would you like me to do for you in Fl?", then Mommy Dearest said, "Sounds like food poisoning. It should pass in a few hours. Keep hydrated and stick to a bland diet." TA DA!!! She CAN diagnose from 1000 miles away... magic I tell ya!!!!

Thanks again all!

Sorry guys, I have to agree. I've felt sick and bloated every time I've eaten at B&C. You think maybe overloading myself on chicken noodle soup, a prime rib sandwich, onion rings and a No Way Jose has anything to do with it? :)
Sorry to hear about your misfortune mrsltg. My B&C sick is always a good sick!

The day I went it was packed (and this place is small, small , small) - I'm sure it's great for an icecream but I think I'd rather have a meal somewhere else. I just didn't see what all the fuss has been about.

Sorry you got so ill mrsltg. It is so lousy to feel rotten - ESPECIALLY when you are on vacation.

I got violently I mean violently ill after eating at The Whispering Canyon last January..within 2 hours of eating. All night long....It was a VERY long night!!! And at the Dr's the next morning I was told absolutely no chance it was from dinner the night before??
I've never had anything like it in my life, ever!

We had to leave the next day to fly home to Canada...I think everyone at the airport thought I was on 'something'!! I was....gravol! What a memory..yech!

You never know what to think...but I tell you...food poisoning or not...I will never eat there again! I cannot even touch their sauces (and I bought so many)...

Go figure!
