Beach?

We will be going to the Fort next week, this is our first trip to Disney and the Fort. We had thought about making a trip to the beach for the day. Which beach is the closest? Are there any campgrounds there or would it be close enough to drive from the Fort? TIA

Cocoa Beach is the closest, it is 45 minute drive.

Check this link. This is for Jetty Park at Cape Canaveral. It's about a 60 minute drive - 67 miles east of WDW. You can watch cruise ships, including Disney ships, launch right from your camper!! Or, you can easily drive over for a day trip. There's a nice beach and very large and nice fishing pier. It's on the Atlantic Ocean.

We prefer the gulf side and the water seems cleaner we like Clear water beach

We have stayed at Jetty park its a nice place and the price was good, we stopped by to see the ships leave before our recent cruise on the mariner, they have a nice new playground.

Fort Desoto in St. Petersburg is nice and allows camping. It is about 1 1/2 hours from WDW.

I'd go with port canivral on thursday or sunday at 5;00 the ships go out. Grills is a great place to watch eat & see catch of the day. it's on the jetty park website under resturants. Cocoa beach ron johns surf shop only 15 min. south. Be sure to check NASA website for launchs something to see if you haven't. Have fun.
