Try Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin - I read it in one sitting and it had me laughing and crying at the same time!!

Then read Something Blue by the same author, it will keep you laughing and crying some more. They are both great books.

I agree with the above poster, The Secret Life of Bees is a great one... Also The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is one of my current favorite books.

On the lighter side I'd recommend anything by Jane Green, Jemima J is probably her most famous... her books are sort of Bridget Jones type fiction.

bother...I can't remember the title of the series or who wrote it, but it's the series with Father Tim and he retires and marries Cynthia who was his neighbor and she's a children's book author/illustrator with a cat... anyone know what I'm talking about? I really enjoyed this series, but I don't own any of them - I borrowed them from a friend. Great summer reading, but I just can't remember the name!!

That would be the Mitford Series by Jan Karon. Those are great books.

Shopaholic books are good for fluff reading...

Another good book that's just being released by Penguin is "Beneath a Marble Sky" by John Shors. It's set in the royal court 17th century India and is about a princess who falls in love with an architect. I've had the chance to preview a few chapters of it, and I'm hooked! Really interesting, and I'm going to have to get a copy to finish it.

Big Stone Gap by Adrianna Trigoani (sp) It is 1st in a trilogy (with a 4th book coming in Sept!!) she wrote Lucia, Lucia.

Jonathan and Faye Kellerman are my favorites!! But they aren't a light read.....I am responding now so I remember to look when I get home for the authors of the Full series. Full House, Full Tilt.........there's some light, fun reading

The Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich is really good too. "One of the Money" is the first, then "Two for the Show" Very funny light read. Read that they are going to try to make them into a movie.
My vote is also for Nora Roberts, Jude Devereau and Jan Karon, I have read most of their books!!

I just finished " Shopaholic and Sister " , and I'm almost done with Mike Leonard's " The Ride of Our Lives ". The last one is hardcover, but it really is a great read.

If you are a fan of romance debbie macomber is one of my favorites her cedar cove series is excellent!

Two books I recently read were The Tenth Circle and The Doctor's Wife. I would consider them summer beach books from what I like as beach books, but they aren't happy, feel good books. I started The Kite Runner. I really like it, but it have to focus on it a bit much for now. Once schol is out I will pick it up again. I decided to go with the new JAmes Patterson book, Beach House.

My DD and I both also enjoyed reading Trigiani's Big Stone Gap trilogy. I also liked Same Sweet Girls by Cassandra King (Pat Conroy's wife).

However, my all time favorite series of books is written by Diana Gabaldon:

Outlander
Dragonfly in Amber
Voyager
Drums of Autumn
The Fiery Cross
A Breath of Snow and Ashes

Warning - The Outlander series can be very addictive! They are quite thick, which is always a plus to me - I have been known to read these straight through until morning.

Anything by Luann Rice, Kristin Hannah...Lavryle Spencer-very light, a little older, but good!
Marley and Me, by John Grogan-especially if you're a dog person.
Diana Gabaldon and Jean Auel-they are the greatest!!! (Warning-even in paperback, their books weigh a bit more than the average, but worth the lugging!!!)

Nora Roberts Chesapeake series- it started as a trilogy, then she wrote one more...about a family of brothers.

Round Ireland With a Fridge, by Tony Hawks-very silly premise, but funny.

Richard Paul Evans, Nicholas Sparks, Nicholas Evans, Jodi Piccoult I could go on and on-I love to read! Have fun! Jen

This is one of my favorite Nora Roberts trilogies also. The first one is Jewels of the Sun; the third one is Heart of the Sea. I keep hoping she will continue this one too, maybe with the children.
