Beach Day

We will be in Disney next week. So excited! We are flying down and will be renting a car and are thinking of driving either to Clearwater or CoCo beach for a day trip. Just realized that we won't have beach chairs or an umbrella. Any one know if there are any beaches where you can rent beach chairs or a cabana/umbrellas? Thanks!

You can rent chairs and umbrellas in Cocoa Beach at the main entrance at the end of SR 520 (Cocoa Beach Causeway but the sign says 520). Just a few blocks further down from there, there's another vendor at the Double Tree Hotel. Both vendors are on the beach, so you'll have to walk onto the sand before you'll see them. You'll want to go to Cocoa Beach because it's Orlando's closest beach - about 45 minutes from Orlando airport. Just take the Bee Line (SR 528) east. Once you pass Port Canaveral, the road starts running parallel to the beach. Go another 7 minutes or so and take a left on 520. It dead ends at the main entrance to the beach in 200 yards.

Thank you very much! Cocoa Beach sounds like the place to go. Are the waves big? My son has his heart set on buying a skim board. Would he be able to use one there? Any one know of chairs/umbrellas that you can rent at Clearwater beach?

Cocoa Beach doesn't have the biggest waves, but everybody surfs there anyway and there is no shortage of beach/surf shops where you can get skim boards.

Most major Florida beaches have chair and umbrella rentals, including Clearwater beach. I've seen kids on the skim boards lots of times there.

we just returned from two weeks at a condo right on cocoa beach. i can back up that the waves are not large (have seen larger in Jersey) but plenty to have a great time with a boogie or skim board. there are some that surf them but again, they didn't seem big (at this time of year) to get much out of that.

we did drive from Coco Beach into WDW twice. trip is generally 1 hour each way.
