Beach Club Villas Renovation

From the Summer 2016 DisneyFiles Magazine:
The first wave of accommodations underwent refurbishment in January, receiving refreshed decor and fabrics, updated bathrooms, larger televisions, a second queen bed in the second bedroom of two-bedroom villas (replacing that bedroom's sleeper sofa, based upon Member feedback) and more. The addition of a new fifth sleeper in Deluxe Studios also is part of this project, slated to continue through the summer.

NOTE: This only affects the dedicated 2-bedroom villas.

We stayed in a renovated BCV studio May 20th on the 4th floor. There was no TV remote to be found and housekeeping advised we were the first people to ever stay in the unit so they had to locate one of the "new" remotes for us. I "allowed" my DS16 to have the queen bed because he would be sleeping on a sofa bed for 8 nights later, so I slept on the murphy bed and didn't find it uncomfortable at all. And I am the type who has NEVER found a sofa bed I liked. :p

While I think the decor is beautiful, I was shocked by the lack of quality of workmanship by the construction workers. And I don't mean the furnishings, I mean the actual carpentry work. If we were truly the first people to stay in the room, DVC needs to fire the current construction company. The walls had multiple scuff marks and substantial paint scrapes - eye level and higher, not at the bottom around the carpet like if you bumped your luggage or shoes against it. The folding closet door was painted shut and out of alignment. Also, [and I so regret not taking a photograph because if you could see what I was talking about you would be appalled] the rooms have the new wonderful Smart TVs. In this room, whoever installed the TV to the wall took what looked like an old, shredded piece of 1/2 inch plywood about 15" x 24", slapped paint on it, screwed it to the wall and then screwed the TV hardware into it. As you know, the Smart TVs stick out somewhat so you can adjust them a little and it looked absolutely horrible. Maybe it was just our room, but if I had been the one who had designed the decor of the room I would have been upset seeing the end product. None of this would have been a horrible vacation downer, but I was not sad to leave the room the next morning. I think DVC needs to seriously reconsider the current construction group or supervise the final product better. :crazy2:

Later, we were in an AKV value studio and I looked behind that Smart TV to see how it was installed - there was a professional looking metal plate screwed to the wall, then the TV screwed to it. It looked so much more classier. Maybe I'm just being petty, but would it seriously have been cost prohibitive to do it right. :confused3

That's sad to hear! Sounds like it's the same crew they had for the VWL refurb a couple of years ago. The work done there is also pretty sad. :sad2:
