We have our first trip home to the BCV in October and I'm concerned due to the Tripadvisor.com reports. Does anyone have recent reports that will make me feel better? :confused3 Below are the last 2 reports from tripadvisors.com on the BCV.

Jul 15, 2007

My experience with this property took place in:
June, 2007
We have stayed at Disney so many times, and this is the first time we were unhappy. When entering the room, we found the room completly unclean! The rugs were so stained that I would not let the children take off their shoes. The tub was molded, and the room was just not clean. We did switch to another room, but the rooms are old. The hallway floors of the Villas are also filthy. I think that for close to five hundred dollars a night a clean room is expected. I will complement the hotel staff on being very friendly. We love Disney and hope that they will rehab the Beach Club Villas.

Would I recommend this hotel to my best friend? probably not
My ratings for this hotel are:

Value
Rooms
Location
Cleanliness
Check in / front desk
Service
Business service
I recommend this hotel for: Families with young children, Families with teenagers

I selected this hotel because ... Theme / Amusement park

My age: 18-24
Traveling group: Family (extended)
My visit was for: Quality time with family
I want to start out by saying that I love the Beach Club. However, our last stay at the villas was nothing like we've come to expect. Our villa looked like it had had a rough life. Furniture was stained and broken, and the place had an overall 'not clean' feel to it. Something needs to be done as the Villas have not aged well, and seemed to be ignored by housekeeping. Hopefully this isn't a trend...

Thanks

Well, BCV is our home resort. AND I've stayed at other resorts on site ( non dvc ) and we LOVE the BCV. The only drawback is the fact that you don't get full cleaning service, but this makes sense because of the idea of what DVC is AND you cna pay to have it. other than that, I've had no problems. Furthermore, my mother, ( who is the actual owner ) is a total clean freak and she's always been quite happy with the 2-bedroom she's rented ( DW and I usually stay in a studio ). Beyond that, it's not just the room, but the resort itself is outstanding! The location, the amenities. We're going back next feb-March and we cannot WAIT!

We stayed at BCV in June. We own at OKW and AKV. We will definitely be buying some BCV points. The resort is FANTASTIC! Our unit was clean, the resort itself is well-designed and has a lot of amenities (Stormalong Bay rocks!) and its location is extraordinary.

I have stayed at 7 of the top 10 top resorts in the world (according to TUG) and BCV is as good as any of them!

Thanks for the reassurance. We have stayed at both the Yacht Club and Beach Club hotel and rented at a couple other DVC resorts but we purchased BCV based on location and Stormalong bay. With this being our first trip to the BCV I was getting a little nervous about the review. Feeling better now.

Thanks

We were there in June and it was better than ever. Our room was spotless and all the staff were very friendly.

That review was not written by a DVC member based on some of their statements. They apparently paid cash to Disney, wanted something else and they would up with the BCV. The carpet in my villa had been recently shampooed and was clean. Furniture was all clean and in good repair. All the sleeper sofas were recently replaced with newer models.

I am not supprized I sold my beach club points I hated the place.

I felt like we were shuffled off to the side did not have that welcome feeling that i get at boardwalk or hopefully AKL ..

Just my 2 cents:dance3:

I've stayed there many times as you can see from my sig, I have never had an issue with cleanliness of any rooms I have stayed in, nor any major issues of any kind for that matter.

IMHO it is by far the best of all the DVC resorts that I have stayed in so far.

The only complaint I might have is getting the room/view I want because it's always at 98-99% capacity at any time of year, but I have a system that gets me what I want almost all the time.

We were at BCV for five nights in May. As you can see from our signature, we own elsewhere. Our room, and all of the resort we visited, was spotless. We didn't notice any of the issues raised in those "reviews."

It seems to me that the more drama in a trip report, the more likely it is to be nothing more than an attention-getting gesture. I also think many of those websites like the one you quoted encourage negative reports. I don't pay much attention to breathless posts -- especially breathless "the sky is falling" posts.

I'd go on your own trip and make up your own mind.

We were just there over the 4th of July week and had no issues whatsoever. We had a 2BD and 2 Studios and all were very clean as well as the rest of the resort. We were also pleasantly surprised with Bus service this trip. The YC/BC buses were separate from BW/S&D. That is usually the only problem with the Epcot area resorts, but this year bus service was exceptional (from YC/BC, MK resort area was a different story).

You can see from my signature that I have stay all over as well.

I did not like this resort for the following reasons.

YOU are not a part of the main resort.

You do get shuffled off to the side(meaning you check in with all the other hotel guests)

It is a long walk to anything the hotel has to offer.

The rooms I have never found to be dirty just smaller and with less good views..

So I am not atempting to FLAME this but I did sell my points here to get a more welcomed feeling like you get a boardwalk and I hope I will get at Animal Kingdom..

It is all in what you like for me I would never stay at SSV either Just do not like the set up and lack of things to do..

Have a Disney Day:cheer2:

We were there for 4 nights in Sept '06 and had no problems with the cleanliness or upkeep of the two bedroom we had. There were areas in the halls where the light colored carpets look sort of grungey (sp?), but the room was clean, there was no mold anywhere, no major maintenance issues.

Our room was very far away from everything-- I felt like the trudge down the hall would never end. On the plus side of that, now I'll be ready for the long BWV hallways when we stay there this Sept.

We just got a resale for BCV and I cant wait to get it finalized (we also own at AKV). Location...Location...Location...oh....and Stormalong Bay :dance3:

Remember that BCV is considered the most popular of the DVC resorts and is always at 99% capacity...just about every single villa is occupied every single night. Statistics alone will tell you that once a while something is going to slip through the cracks in terms of cleanliness. They have to work so hard and fast to turn those villas and get them ready for the next guests. Thus, once in a while, there is going to be a slip-up or a less-than-great cleaning job.

Also, since each villa is occupied every night, there is just going to be more wear and tear on the furniture, etc. We see far more posts here about how wonderful everything is as opposed to the few where folks say things are looking "worn down." It seems as though DVC is doing a fine job of keeping up with these issues...but again...due to the high demand of this resort, every once in a while an issue is going to get overlooked.

I wouldn't worry about it for a moment. The worst thing that could happen would be that you get a room that is not clean...call Mousekeeping or the resort manager and it will get taken care of. Obviously, this is not something you want to have to deal with on your first day of vacation...but again, this is "worst case" and it really isn't that big of a deal for a worst case scenario.

David,

I was not referring to you with my remarks about "sky is falling" posts. I was referring to some of the reviews OP quoted, and some of the occasional threads we get here. It especially cracks me up when a poster is foaming at the mouth about some monumental issue, but when asked if they complained while they were there and someone could have fixed the problem, they say "No, we didn't want to take time away from our vacation to complain!"

Sorry you didn't like BCV and chose to sell your points. If you didn't like BCV you probably did the right thing to sell. Hopefully you kept those points long enough that you didn't lose money.

Schoolboy error.

Never, ever, ever, pay attention to anything ever seen on trip advisor.

According to trip adviser, everywhere, is old, dirty, smelly, noisy, tired and rubbish. It has no monitoring and everyone just tries to destroy anywhere they dont like. Most posts are totally ficticious. I know of anicdotal evidence that staff from one hotel, post dodgy reports about other resorts.

So, in summary.

Never believe anything you read on trip advisor!

Well just as in everything on these boards that require a personal opinion, I think you'll have to evaluate for yourself. Ask anyone about meals, rides, parks, attractions and you'll have some lovers and some haters. As I replied before, I *love* Beach Club and so does my whole family and relatives we've taken. BUT as you've seen some don't ... Can't base on anything else but your own opinion really...

We love BCV and usually stay 3 times/year.

The hallway carpets are discolored in places but I don;t know that I would have ever noticed if not for reading it on the DIS! But I'm sure it is not because they are dirty as I see them cleaning those carpets every single trip as well as touching up the cream colored trim.

Some of the things David dislikes are some of my favorite things. I like that BCV is set back from the main hotel. I love the woods views and prefer that view to any available at the BW. I think the rooms aren't any further to the amenities of the hotel than all very small % a handful of BC rooms. It dosen't bother me in the least to check in with BC guests....at BW isn't check in with BWI?

As others have said, try it and find out for yourself. :thumbsup2

We stayed at BCV in April after renting points in a studio.

I was walking my laundry down the hallway (the studio units don't have washing machines) and spilled my entire travel sized box of tide on the floor. There were two staff members in the hallway and I remember them being so nice. They cleaned up the mess in an instant (I tried to help but they wouldn't let me) and if that wasn't nice enough the one staff member went into the supply cabinet and gave me 3 more boxes of tide for free.

If they cleaned up my mess in under a minute I have all great things to say about the cleanliness of the resort. Sure, the carpeting isn't out of the package new but what hotel has that?

What usually cracks me up about these kind of posts is that I work with someone who is a real slob at home and in their car, yet they would be the first one to complain about a stain on the carpet in a hotel and post about it on Tripadvisor. Take those posts with a grain of salt and enjoy BCV!

Feeling better!!!

We have stayed at several Disney Resorts and DVC just not at BCV yet. We have always loved the YC&BC which is why we purchase at BCV. I should have know better than to worry about a couple of tripadvisor reports. Most of the tripadvisor reports about Disney Resorts are positive so it caught me off guard the negative report.

Thanks all for your comments. Can't wait for October. :cool1:

I wouldn't say never, but you do at least have to evaluate the overall tone of the reviews.

The two BCV reviews that the OP quoted gave the resort a 2.0 rating (out of 5), but the overall rating was 4.0. It's lowest rating was for Value, which of course doesn't matter to DVC members. Also notice that they were only 51 reviews for a resort that's pretty much occupied 100% of the time. I suspect that DVC members just don't bother putting reports for their resorts on Trip Advisor.

Trip Advisor is a pretty good resource, but it's up to you to use it wisely. It helped us get an excellent hotel in Key West at a great value.
