I had an email from Disney, regarding our trip @ the Beach Club starting on Oct 28th. I called and was told the club level lounge will be closed and rooms will be refurbished, and that I was being moved to the Yacht club next door. They confirmed they would not honer the reservation, and said the yacht club pricing is same, (I disagreed since usually YC is cheaper than BC if I recall when we booked early in the year) .

Can anyone confirm if this is indeed the case, that Beach club is closed end of the month? If so, and we are being moved to YC, should WDW credit the difference in room rate?

UPDATE:

So my situation has worsen. After talking with the WDW DRC folks, I was moved to Yacht club(which I have come to terms with).

What's not ok is the room category I was put in. I booked the Water View Club Level at beach club and after trying to dig what room type I was given at Yacht club, it was a Standard view room (facing a roof/parking lot). So now i'm fuming. The CM said they don't have an available room with Water view during my stay, but yet my phone call a few days ago said I was being given same room type.

I'm not sure what to do next but I replied to the initial email letting them know it was unacceptable. My ideal situation at this point is to get an equal or above room category of what i'm paying for.

I actually think they are very close to the same price, maybe a $10 difference per night. I understand there's a shock at not getting what you want, but they are essentially the same resort and personally, I think the club lounge at the YC is better than the one BC. But if there's some resolution that would make you happy with all this, then ask. The worst they can say is no.

Yours is the second post I’ve seen about being moved from BC CL late October, FWIW. Seems they are up to something then.

if the rate is different you should absolutely be credited, if not, then no sweat. I'd check yacht club rates vs what you paid to see if it is cheaper.

Wait, what? If they are moving you they are honoring the reservation, no?

If it's closed, it's closed and they are moving you. IF YC is cheaper, which is possible but by a very negligible amount, you can get a refund. Provided you haven't booked with a 3rd party broker like Orbitz or something.

You can check rack rates for your resort/room category and travel period on Mousesavers.com. YC for your time period is actually slightly higher per night.

The difference can be, for some promotions, I've seen YC get a higher discount, making the resulting per night cost less. Even then, it's not much different.

I was also moved yesterday. I received a nice phone call, gave me an option to have food delivered to my room or be moved to the same type of room at the yacht club. I moved to the yacht club. Everyone who has posted a reply, has expressed that the yacht club is just as nice if not nicer. I have been to the beach club club level a dozen times and this will be a new experience but I am excited to try something new. The pool is the most important reason that we stay at the beach/yacht club. Thanks to everyone who has responded. Exciting!

I've seen YC highly or BC higher on different times of the year. You are not experiencing any change in room category, you have all the same resort amenities (not sure if you know, but YC is not even a separate building; it is a connected building with BC and shares bus and boat service, restaurants, , and pool), and YC rooms were actually refurbished more recently than BC's (and from the sounds of it, the fact they are doing a refurb at Beach Club means the rooms and lounge probably really needed it, so you dodged a bullet!). Take a deep breath and relax and enjoy your stay. You are not being downgraded.

Thanks for the update. We are looking forward to something different

They have been doing some kind of reno at BC for months now. There were a few posts that the first floor was being closed for renovation several months ago.. Haven’t really seen any posts since then. If I remember right, it was something about upgrading the WiFi? I don’t know if anything else was being done. But if they started on the first floor & are starting the fifth floor, they must be almost done.

From page 1 of the Yacht & Beach thread:

ETA: July 28- Working on 2nd floor- parts of floor are closed off to booking to prevent disruption to guests.
July 8-July 23: Minor refurbishment project on first floor of BC

Guests staying at Disney’s Beach Club Resort should be advised that first-floor rooms will be closed for more than two weeks as part of a refurbishment project.

The refurbishment, running from Monday, July 8th, to Tuesday, July 23rd, will include an upgrade to the in-room Wi-Fi, continuing the current trend that’s already taken place at other Walt Disney World resort hotels, including Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, Disney’s All-Star Movies Resort, and Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. Of course, if you need even more internet connectivity, you can also try your luck with the new Wi-Fi enabled fleet of busesthat were recently announced.

They must be starting the fifth floor since they just moved me to the yacht club

I’ve always preferred the YC, the lobby vibe is more relaxed (no Cape May guests milling around waiting for their table) and to me it seems a bit more upscale. Plus no danger of getting one of the BC Juliette balconies.
The YC is a few steps further from the IG, but closer to the BC/YC dock. The marketplace for the limited quick service options is located in the BC (although since OP has CL, probably a non issue for them) & SAB is a tad closer to more BC rooms than YC rooms, so I understand why some prefer the BC.

There is a small sandwich type shop in the marketplace in YC too. No idea if it's got fewer or the same offerings but there is something. Coffee bar there too.
Smells from Cape May don't travel down to YC as much either.

Yes, of course, discounts can make a difference. I'm referring to rack rates. Unless OP can show that YC CL is coming out less than what he/she paid for the BC CL room for their travel dates, I don't think they have an argument for a discounted rate for their upcoming stay. OP is probably wise to plug their dates into the WDW site and see what rate is being quoted for his/her travel dates at YC CL.

We leave tomorrow (PORFQ first night) then check in Beach Club, CL for 7 days. when does this start? I haven't seen any emails so maybe we are safe but I prefer YC CL over BC and the rooms are way nicer with hardwood floors and awesome showers!

Late Oct, 28th or so, I believe. @GADisneyDad14 posted a date somewhere, the main CL page I think.
