Hi, Steve! I grew up in Novato (on Simmons Lane), and am now in NJ. I would much rather be in Novato than here in NJ any day! 
I have to agree with the people that have said take the free nights at the Swan/Dolphin. You can take the money that you saved and have a few nice meals and do a little bit of shopping. In addition, as a Platinum SPG member, you're entitled to an upgrade at check-in and access to the Club Level (concierge) lounge, even if you're not staying concierge. It's worth saving the money.
