Ok....The BC is full the week we are going in May. There is availability at the YC...are they essentially the same resort? They share the same pool, correct? I heard BC is more kid friendly, but we will be fine at YC with 3 young ones, correct?

Yes, they are essentially the same resort. Share the same pool, etc. They are technically separate in terms of booking, but the buildings are connected and next to each other, share the same boat stop. The only difference between the two that I could tell was a little bit of theming difference. BC might "seem" slightly more casual than YC, but I don't think either place is better than the other if you have kids with you.

I'll add that YC is a bit more subdued / serene compared to the hustle-and-bustle, lively nature of the BC. I love them both -- and both are great for kids.

rooms are the same but BC has less balconies. You have a greater chance of getting one at YC. I like YC better than the BC side always seems more crowded.

Yes, you will be fine at the Yacht club with your little ones!

I'd like to invite you over to the Yacht & Beach Club FAQ thread- there is a ton of info and pictures on the first page of the thread, and lots of experts available to answer questions you may have about the resorts.

You can click on the link in my signature.

Here is the post from the FAQ in the thread:

What are the differences between the Beach Club and the Yacht Club?

The Beach Club and Yacht Club are similar resorts in terms of service and amenities, and have equal access to the shared pool complex, health club and video arcade. Both resorts have the same management team in place.

Some minor differences have been noted by guests:

Beach Club
Lighter, beachy decor in lobby and rooms
Lobby can be active and lively with families waiting for meals at Cape May
Closer to EPCOT and Marketplace Gift Shop
Approximately 50% of rooms in all room categories have full balconies. The remaining are standing balconies.

Yacht Club
Darker woods and nautical decor in lobby and rooms
Lobby is more serene
Convention attendees are more likely to be booked at YC
Closer to Hollywood Studios and Friendship Boats
Most rooms have a full balcony

As others have said, yes, all the same resort complex with shared pool, restaurants, movies on the beach, shops, etc.

We've stayed at both - BC many times over the past 21 years and YC just once last year. We prefer BC because we like the theme and decor at BC and the proximity to BC Marketplace (which offers a nice selection of CS food, groceries, merchandise and a self-serve refill mug station.) BC is only a tad closer to Epcot, but that helps too. We did see quite a few convention attendees at YC, so it has a slightly less "vacation" feel for me. But I still think YC is entirely child-friendly. For us, the most significant benefit of YC is the guaranteed full balcony. But we've requested and received a full balcony at BC for every stay (and there have been many!)

In the end, I love both and would not hesitate to stay at YC again if BC was not available!

Thanks a lot for the feedback and websites to reference! I have looked at them all...great information. The BC is booked and it seems to have a slighter edge to being more "family friendly," but the YC does still have rooms, so we will prob go there. We are currently booked at POR, but are afraid it might be too laid back and quiet for us....looking forward to the conveniece of the YC and its location to HS and Epcot...Having been at AKL last year for our 1st trip, we had to use the buses every time we went to a park. Being able to walk will be nice.

This is the biggest reason we will not pay deluxe pricing to stay at AKL, though it looks nice otherwise. Besides walking, you can take the boat to DHS from BC/YC if you're a little tired for walking, though the boats are by no means fast.

I posted before, but just wanted to add that we did a split stay between POFQ and YC last April and while I enjoyed POFQ for a mod, I was THRILLED to check in at YC. I've always appreciated the incredible convenience of walking to both DHS and Epcot from BC/YC, but appreciated it even more following a couple nights at a mod. I think you'll be very happy with that switch!
