Hey neighbors. How is the beach at VB? The pics I have seen make it look so small and I have heard its small. Is it too small to use? Can you grab a patch of sand for the day and do all things beachie?
In '05, the beach was wider than it was in '04. There was plenty of room to sit on chairs, go for turtle watch walks, enjoy a day on the beach. We were there in August last, I don't think anything has changed since then.
The turtles lay eggs in spring through the beginning of summer, (I think, there are different turtles and schedules) and then they hatch a few months later. There are walks with the naturalist at certain times during the day, and there is a way to go on some night walks with off site naturalists.
When we were there, naturalists from Animal Kingdom were at the resort and gave talks at night in the community room about the different habitats. I think that was in May. My DSis and I went on different walks with naturalists, and we both saw some "false crawls or false nests", I don't remember the term, the turtle came up, thought about it, and decided the sand or something wasn't quite right and so didn't lay eggs.
There are strict rules about lights at night during the nesting season, VB is very environmentaly conscious and does it's best for the turtles. Many types of turtles were devistated in the hurricanes the year before last because many many nests didn't hatch, the turtles drowned.
