I just read about this on about board.

You can be seated by Mickey Mouse.

Have a reservation for 4 at 5 pm. Ask for table 66 or 67. Be early. Be friendly and enthusiastic!

Anyone else heard about this?

Nope. Never heard of anyone asking for a specific table # either.

Now being there at the right time and being friendly, that may work. But I would never recommend asking for a table by its number. Seems a bit over the top to me. Exactly the kind of family I wouldn't pick as family of the day if I were the hostess.

I agree on the table number - seems too in your face. Get their early - do already. Be friendly - of course.

Is this real? Does this happen at breakfast? Just trying to learn more. We have reservations at 5 pm and didn't even know about them introducing the characters before dinner starts.

I have never heard of that either, but it doesn't mean it doesn't happen. We have only had dinner there once and it was around 5:30 I think. Maybe someone else knows what happens when they open for dinner. Same w/breakfast, I've been there a number of times but never @ opening time that I recall.

In Dec my family and I were the Family of the Day at Cape May for dinner. We checked in before they opened at 5:30 for our 5:50 reservation. I was very surprised when our buzzer went off so early and then even more surprised when we reached the podium and told we were the Family of the Day. Looking back I can imagine a few things were factored in to be selected. It was my son's first trip (which was noted on the ressie) and we did chat up the hostess b/c we noticed on her name tag that she was part of the college program and that college was from our home state. Definitely was a great experience :)

OK... please tell me... what is your family of the day experience at the restaurant? Has this happened at more than 1 place? Is it just Chef Mickey's? Something they do all the time, or something the cast members just made up on the fly?

Thanks!!!

It sounds as though Family of the Day at a restaurant is something you cannot arrange ahead of time to be, so I wouldn't suggest putting a whole lot of effort into it (not sure I'd suggest asking for a specific table number either, that sounds like overdoing it). Best chance seems to be to book an early meal, check in early and don't act like you're expecting to be given an honor (might be best not to tell the kids about it too in case it sets them up for disappointment - they could pick someone else or just decide not to do it that day)

Our DD has been picked to open Chef Mickey's twice! It's pretty cool. If you're there early, you can ask if anyone's been picked yet. Good Luck:thumbsup2

I agree with this completely! I have horrific visions of being "Family of the Day" turning into another experience like "Waking up Tink" became.

Things like this are fun at Disney, but nobody should ever plan their vacation around special honors and pixie dust. Expectations can suck the fun out of pixie dust experiences for everyone. :goodvibes

My neice was "Chef of the Day" at Crystal Palace a few years ago. We had an early reservation. It was completely random-- which made it so special. She was given a paper chef hat with character signatures, a certificate and our whole group got pictures with the characters before they started seating people. It was a great memory!

DS was once Chef of the Day when we ate breakfast at Boma and he received similar items. He got a necklace of sorts with "Chef of the Day" on it and a picture with the actual chef. Plus they gave him a pineapple. :rotfl: That was years ago and I don't even know if they still do this.

That was cute but personally I always prefer to NOT get a bunch of extra attention. Maybe I'm just odd. :confused3

I love when this stuff is random and not planned. Spontenaity is where hte magic is at!
That being said, anyone heard of them doing this at chef mickeys for bfast?
We have an early opening am ressie one morning ;)

I saw it happen once at CM in 2007

We got this at CM for dinner a couple years ago. Mickey came and held my kids hands and walked with them to the table. They signed a special book and got pictures. It was pretty neat.

or the divers with signs at Coral Reef. They had to stop doing that, did they have to stop waking up Tink, whatever that was?

I was thinking that if they start being inundated with people who demand to be family of the day because they heard about it on the internet, then eventually they'll stop doing it altogether. I also like the idea of the cast members picking whomever they wish for the little "extra special," not feeling like they have to give it to the first person who asks. I am sure they enjoy surprising people.

I know nothing about this so can't comment specifically but I would think that DIsney intended for this to be a random, special surprise. Let's hope it stays that way ;)

I think it is quite easy to spoil a rather pricey character meal by mixing in feeling of disappointment (even slightly) at not being picked, having hoped that you might. Disney's Pixie-Dust moments have always been intended to be completely unexpected - the magic is in the element of surprise!

I know that they have completely modified waking up Tink, so now it is a group thing, and no longer a special event for one person. There were just too many fights (I have been almost run over by parents on their way to Tinkerbell's Treasures, and even walked past a screaming match between parents :sad2: )
