anybody got the lowdown on the "be our guest" restaurant in the expanded magic kingdom? Is it worth eating at?

We ate dinner there last year and are planning on going back next year. We enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.

We ate there for lunch last week (we had a FP for it). It was lovely!! Once in the castle, you order your food at a kiosk and then you can find a seat in 1 of the 3 dining rooms (my favorite is the ballroom). After a few minutes, your food is brought to you at your table. The food is pretty good and you can get some nice pictures after you eat. On your way out, make sure you get a picture with the beautiful B &the B mural!

Our Recommendations:
. . . appys:... French Onion Soup
. . . entree:.. Braised Pork (Lunch), Chicken Breast (Dinner)
. . . dessert:. Lemon-Raspberry Cream Puff

NOTE: Eatery has different food themes than usually found in a park. Though not in the
"signature" eatery quality, food is usually tasty. Unfortunately, the taste comes from the
sauce and high sodium levels, and not the underlying food base. Lunch is QS, no ADR-res;
dinner is TS and ressies are highly advised. Atmosphere is very well done and probably the
most fancy and most themed of any WDW eatery. As a QS eatery it is one of the best, as
a TS eatery it is average. Overall: great atmosphere, only average food quality. As a side,
the "Grey Stuff" is now a purchased menu item for lunch and dinner. (Used to be free, but
it seemed like EVERYONE had a "special occasion" and wanted it free.)

Our reviews: (we think lunch is better than dinner)
LUNCH:
. . . tuna or chicken nicoise - good, but too light on olives
. . . croque monsieur - nice, but Béchamel needs more nutmeg
. . . turkey on a warm baguette - average, nice dijon
. . . roast beef sandwich - tasty, but slightly tough
. . . braised pork - recommended
. . . vegetable quiche - wife liked it (men don't eat such)
DINNER:
. . . pork rack chop - the pasta out-shined the pork
. . . braised pork - recommended
. . . chicken breast - nicely done and recommended
. . . pan-seared salmon - cooked well, but average taste
. . . grilled strip steak - good, but not great
. . . sautéed shrimp and scallops - only average
. . . oven-baked ratatouille - average

We had both lunch and dinner there, and enjoyed both.

Lunch has somewhat limited offerings. I loved the braised pork, but 2 of my kids weren't thrilled with the options. (For dinner, all 3 of my kids ordered steak and enjoyed it. I had the shrimp and scallop in puff pastry, and thought it was great!)

I agree pretty much with this. I definitely like the lunch much better than the dinner. I thought for what I paid that I should have had larger portions and there should have been more to it like a salad or a second side. Lunch on the other hand is what I would expect and priced more reasonably.

We have eaten there several times both when it first opened before the menu change and recently (Oh how I miss the steak sandwich - the roast beef not as good). I think it is a really good option for lunch. It is nice to go into the restaurant and have a nice quick service meal that offers something other than burgers or chicken. As far as dinner goes, I personally would rather eat in the hotels around the MK such as Ohana, Kona, the Wave. If your grandchild is a big Beauty and the Beast fan than go for dinner but not for the food as much as for the atmosphere.

When you have a reservation for dinner is the room you'll be eating in randomly assigned? I have heard I want to be in either the west wing or main ballroom. Thanks!

A year ago, I would have said that it was awesome - because it was. But we just ate there again in August and the menu has been "tweaked" alot and not for the better. We really have no need to go back again. The atmosphere is gorgeous but the food this past time was not great. Both times, we ate there for dinner. :(

ASKING FOR A SPECIFIC TABLE/VIEW AT TS EATERY:

1) The new method of seat assignments
. . . you check in at podium with the GREETER/SEATER
. . . the ressie goes into the table waiting queue
. . . an ASSIGNER walks around with handheld tablet computer
. . . when a table opens, the next ressie with the number of guests pops up
. . . the ASSIGNER places that ressie to that next table
. . . the podium is notified the table is ready by a slip printing out
. . . the podium hands the SEATER the table slip
. . . the slip had table, number adults/kids, DDP/OOP/TIW/etc
. . . the SEATER shows the guests to the assigned table
. . . the SEATER passes the slip to the SERVER
. . . the SERVER meets the guests, confirms slip info, starts service
2) The guest frequently cannot request a table at podium, as they don't talk to SEATER
3) A friendly GREETER may personally communicate with an ASSIGNER.
4) But, usually too busy.
5) Due to assignment, guests can't just ask for a different table while walking.
6) HOWEVER, it never hurts to ask for a specific table.

we had lunch there last week. in retrospect I would have chosen to NOT spend all the time and effort getting that Fast Pass. ultimately I am glad I could never get dinner reservations. food was underwhelming, it was waaayyy too crowded and you could not actually enjoy the atmosphere or decor.

not even the grey stuff was worth it

We had a lunch (FP+) and a dinner there this past August. Were seated in West Wing for lunch, Ballroom for dinner. The interior is very well themed, worth seeing. Beast came through twice. Food at dinner was better and presented well, unfortunately our waiter was not good and tried and rush us along. We actually gave up a second dinner reservation we had for later in vacation.

We went for dinner and absolutely loved it! I am a huge Beauty and the Beast fan so I loved all the detail put into everything. We were also on the dining plan so we didn't pay for it....might be a different story if I had to pay out of pocket.

The main course was perfect, we had the steak and the chicken (Second best we had in our trip only to California Grill).
Apps menu and dessert were alittle underwhelming compared to other selections through our trip.
The wine menu was nice for still being at the park.
Our server was outstanding...she really added to the dinner.
We didn't feel rushed at all, took about 2 hours for dinner and exploring the castle.

Was it difficult to get a FP+ for the restaurant?

During my College Program I ate at BoG once for lunch and once for dinner.

For Lunch, I didn't really like the food that much, maybe it was just the meal I got. I had the hot ham & cheese sandwich with fries because I didn't think I would like any of the other options. (I'm a picky eater) I ate what I ordered, but it wasn't one of my favorite things I've ever had. It was still nice to be able to see inside the castle, the theming is awesome and you can get some great pictures in it, if that's what you care about the most, the lunch is a good option. It's also cheaper. I would give lunch at BoG a C.

Dinner, however, was significantly better. The service was good. The food was GREAT. And there's character interaction with the beast. I was disappointed that there were only pictures and no autographs, but I'm glad I got a photo. The food at dinner, I would give it an A. The Steak meal was fantastic. A little expensive, but worth it. This was the one time I splurged on my College Program, and spent a lot of money out in the parks. It was worth it for me. My meal after tip ended up being $70, only because I bought the $20 souvenir cup/goblet, lol, but I wanted something to show I ate there.

A tip: If you can't get a reservation with dinner, try going between 3 and 3:30 PM during the day when they are closed prepping for dinner. See if anyone has cancelled a reservation. I never had a reservation on my program because I was always working. But I went at 3:20 on one day I had off work, and asked if they had room for a party of 1, and they said "we might can get you in around 5:00, but youll have to wait over an hour" and I ended up getting in at 4:25! They opened at 4:00, so really i only waited 25 minutes and got in without having a prior reservation for dinner. It never hurts to ask. :)

We just ate dinner there on 9/23 and can't say we were impressed.

There was a torrential downpour and we both were soaked. So we decided to start our meals off with the French Onion soup. It was so-so. Points for being super cheesy, negative for it being vegetarian. The broth had too little flavor without the beef stock. If you're going to make FOS with just an onion broth, you HAVE to cook the onions low and slow for hours to develop the caramelization that'll give the broth flavor. They definitely didn't do that here.

For entrees I chose the strip steak and DW chose the scallops and shrimp. Her dish was tasty enough, but my steak was kind of ...meh. Poorly butchered with a substantial vein of sinew running through it. Definitely not a $30-something steak, though it was properly cooked. The fries with aioli were nice though.

I like how they do the dessert presentation, but the desserts themselves fell short. The base "Grey Stuff" is served on was dried out and tough, almost like it was stale. The lemon dessert we got was tasty enough.

Oh, and if you want the wine they suggest with your entree, make sure you check the price on the winelist. I ordered the one paired with my steak as it was one I was familiar with and knew I'd enjoy, expecting it to be $14 tops when considering the venue. When the check came, I was shocked that it was $17. It's a nice enough wine but that was excessive.

I thought dinner was over rated. It was just okay, and certainly not what I expected for the cost of the meal. I did enjoy lunch, and was glad i took my DGD. I am going with my friend in October, and she is Castle Crazy, so I secured a FP for lunch. I figure we have to eat and hopefully the lunch menu is still good. If not, the Castle is pretty, so it will be a fun place for her.

I was just there for the very first time one week ago, on Sat. Sept. 27, for dinner. I had a WONDERFUL experience. I was a little nervous due to some of the not-so-flattering reviews I've read here, but honestly, my experience there was flawless. princess:

When we were there last year our dinner seating was where they chose. For lunch we were able to choose where we wanted (not sure if it's still this way) and we chose the West Wing. Loved it!!! For dinner, we sat in the Ballroom. I think for dinner your chances of being in the Ballroom are best since that's the largest space. We had requested to sit closer to the snowy window and they said the table they were showing us was the only table available. I'm sure you can write a table request with your ADR, but I'm not sure how well they'd be able to honor it.

We were there during the last week of September and ate here twice. Lunch was absolutely the best QS lunch I've ever had on Disney property! Dinner was good. I had the pork chop which had good flavor but was a little dry. Of course she said it's not normally well done, but I asked for mine that way. The atmosphere was awesome and we will definitely eat here again. My 63 year old boyfriend turned into an 8 year old when the beast stopped to give him a high five at the table and then had pics taken.
