If the answer is no, here is my second question: how good are the kids' meal and appetizers? I'm not a big fan of the dinner items and was curious about my alternatives is all.

Pretty sure you can't because they are separate menus. Keep in mind that BOG is changing over to a price fix menu beginning next week as well for dinner.

how's a price fix work?

You get a 3 course meal from available selections for a fixed price. You must pay for all three courses. There is no a la carte.

Lunch items are not available. The kitchen does full turnover between meals. The new dinner is also Signature.

Prix Fixe is a fixed price meal. You pay one price and get the entire, pre-set three course meal.

Starting July 27th, the dinner service is you pay a fixed price of $55 and get your choice of an appetizer, an entree, and a dessert. If you're on the dining plan, then it's 2 credits.

No you can't because they are completely different menus and they switch over what they are preparing.
BTW not sure when you are eating there but as of July 27th is a prix fixe price and menu for dinner.
Price is based on age so you'd be paying the adult price even if you ended up requesting children's menu chocies.
You might as well just try for lunch instead.
