Be carefull when renting private.

We returned last week from a fantastic nearly three weeks in florida. Our worst moment being the Miami traffic or so we thout. When we arrived at the villa we had rented in the champions gate area we were surprised at the state of the carpets and paintwork ect. Not that it would ruin our holiday just surprised that it needed a bitof tlc.We were promised a call the next day and deciced to mention it there just to make sure it is recorded by the management company.
Well that call never came so we agreed that they were so dirty it must have been recorded.
When we came to leave we cleaned the villa and made sure we left it as we found it.So were surprised to get an email telling us we were paying for the carpet cleaning when we arrived back. we also got a few calls from the bank when we were there which should have got our alarm bells ringing.
We have rented villa fom companies many times in the past without being cheated. This is the first time we have rented privatly but will not be doing so again after this. Its the fact that you have no recouse renting direct from owner and are just hoping that there standards are the same as yours please be warned so villa owners are not what they seem.

Oh no! Sorry to hear about that. It sounds like the owners didn't inspect after the previous guests vacated and you got lumped with the blame. I hope you're going to protest loudly about the fact that you did complain and no visit or phone call was forthcoming.

Really sorry that you are going through this after your Holiday, it must really leave a sour taste.

Didn't you take any photos inside your Villa?? Just general holiday snaps that could show some of the damage that was already there?? It may help your case a bit

Sorry to hear about your problems and I hope you fight them over this.
We have always rented direct from the owners and have never had any problems. On the one occassion that we did arrive to find that the BBQ hadn't been cleaned by the previous tenants we reported it straight away to the management company. We didn't want it cleaning as we had intentions of using it, but we wanted it recorded that it was like this when we arrived.
On the whole I would say that I feel safer renting direct with the owner than through a company. They have a lot more to lose if they cannot rent their villa than a company, as everything comes out of the own pockets.
I also prefer to chose my own villa than wait and be allocated on arrival.

Yes, our mistake was not reporting to the managment company and expecting them to have done there job properly. As to the owners they are just a disgrace.

What a shame - we have rented privately - but have alerted the management company to any problems - hope you can get it sorted out
