The local news has been full of articles describing I-95 between Brevard and Volusa Counties (Port Canaveral is in Brevard-Daytona is in Volusa) as the most dangerous stretch of Interstate in the country in terms of fatal accidents! Over the past few months there have been 13 fatalities. Seems like most of them are median crossing head on collisions. Lots of semi's on the road. Just want to make sure everyone is very careful throughout their drive to the port.

I bring this up because there were two young people killed last Thursday. They had just completed their honeymoon on a cruise from Port Canaveral (don't know if it was the Wonder or another line), and had just gotten on I-95 heading home to St Augustine, when they were rear ended by a semi as they were slowing for an accident ahead. Their honeymoon was over less than an hour when their lives ended so tragically.

So everyone- be careful out there!!

I second that caution. I live in Brevard County and spent this past Sunday in St Augustine. Yesterday ten minutes after we entered the highway (I-95) we were diverted due to an Oil Tanker accident. The highway was closed for several hours and we were taken on a 2 and a half hour detour. Be careful and allow yourself ample time (and don't let your gas gauge get too low). My prayers go out to the couple's family.

How horrible! My heart goes out to the families of the victims. Thank You for taking the time to post this as we will be traveling on I-95 from New York.

Last April, on a way to our Wonder Cruise from our hotel, we were stuck in bumber to bumber traffic! It took us almost 2 hours longer to get to port. The accident we saw on that Highway was bad! People were pulling out of the fast lanes to cross the median to turn back it was so bad.

Isn't that the stretch of road with all the construction?
I was driving 95 back in January, and I remember a 40-60 mile stretch south of Jacksonville, where there were barricades, and the speed limit was backed down to 55MPH.

The construction is between Jax and St. Augustine. Volusia and Brevard is the area from Daytona Beach to the port.

Can't really say that I'm surprised. I-95 in Florida is one of the most boring roads I've ever driven on. And lots of folks from up north are determined to drive through the night so they can get the trip over with while their kids are sleeping. It wouldn't surprise me at all if some people fall asleep while driving this incredibly monotonous highway.

The problem that has been bringing a lot of accidents has been not only going to sleep behind the wheels, but also debris being left behind by vehicles - part of a semi-truck's brake shoe flew off going through an older woman's windshield and she is still in critical condition - 4 young women on their way to Miami to take a cruise during spring break, swerved to miss tire thread, over estimated and flipped their car and the driver, was killed - all of this within a week or so - the drivers are all on a rush and unfortualty lives have been loss - I have a girlfriend who lost her oldest sister last year on I-95 - she was doing the speed limit, but was caught in a terrible situation of rushing and overspeeding behind her and in front of her, cause a terrible accident - she was the only one that loss her life, but her children have never recovered as of yet - I agree we aren't the only ones with unsafe road, but just be extra careful coming down on 95 - a great deal of foolish happens on this highway.
Stay safe
Always
