Oh I am so behind. And not coming up w any great ideas for my DD17. She has the usual Ipod, computer, etc... She has a pandora - I do plan to buy a new bead. I need help!:eek:

Maybe a special outing or even a week-end somewhere trip with just mom????

DD19 said her favorite gift for Christmas is tickets for her and I to see a Broadway show. We have gone to different cities, not just NYC. We are going to Hershey to see a show and it costs only $55 per seat.

I agree, that spending time is really special. Maybe you could lift the grounding if it is just the 2 of you.

I have a couple of ideas. (FWIW - DD will be 17 in April...so I'll be in the same boat in a couple of months.)

What about a GC for a mani/pedi that she can use at a future time (i.e. PROM, or when she is no longer grounded.) Or - any thing that can help to defray prom expenses?

Does she drive? What about a gas gift card?
Itunes?

When my sisters and I turned 17 my parents got us each a Hope Chest. I think that is a great gift for this age because don't teens always want to 'move out'. Traditionally this was used for women to store goods they would need for their marriage however we used it to store items for when we moved out. It also means that from here on out you can gift items for her hope chest or give her gift cards to pick out her own items!

Another idea would be a nice string of pearls or something.

17, is she a senior?
I know it's early for prom and graduation planning, but a g/c for a pre-prom massage, hair and make-up session would be pure luxury for a 17 year old girl. And if that would break the budget, how about a mani/pedi/make-up session for pre-prom or graduation?

If she is an instant gratification type girl, and can't wait for May to use her gift, how about a gc to her favorite restaurant to go out with her friends when she is no longer grounded, or movie passes with gc for popcorn and soda?

Gas cards - she lost driving privileges:(
She still has Gift cards from Xmas.
I am checking into tickets next.. we do need to bond!
Hope chest - havent thought of that!

Thanks for the great ideas.

I'm going to take a wild stab at an idea. Wouldn't cost you anything...Obviously, your DD has done something to loose your trust.

What about lifing her "grounding" for 1 evening to do something with her friends? No worries if it isn't the right suggestion - only you know what happened, and if this would be an appropriate gift or not - or even if your DD would appreciate it.

She is a junior - but will probably go to the prom - love the idea of gift certificate to pedi mani.

And I think I will give her one night off of grounding for her birthday. Make a gift certificate and let her redeem when she gets something planned with friends.

Thanks for all the great ideas!

i currently have a 17 yr DD and 16 yr old that will be 17 in April. They are 2 very different personalities. ( also 19 yr dd)

The current 17 yr old would love an outting, music lessons, clothing, shopping trip including a nice meal, books, her own computer or cell phone ( yeah i know we're mean parents), instrument..violin or guitar
The soon to be 17 yr old would also like clothing, sheet music, cello, broadway show, music, mani/pedi, outting with friends ( vs mom), cooking lessons or money for ingredients for her own concoctions lol.
They would probably both like to have their ( shared) room redone and money in any form or amount lol. Neither drive but will probably be by the end of the year.

I have a 17 yr old dd--- I feel your pain. An idea I recently used was 17 ways I love you... I gave her 17 hair elastics, 17 pennies, 17 hersey kisses, some of the "17"s were money- panera $17 gift card, $17 CVS card, ect...
I did have a list ( I scrapbook) of 17 things I love about you as one of the "17 gifts" (this was hard to do for someone I don't particularly like many days lol)....

Good luck!!!

This made me laugh. :rotfl2:

My dd will be 17 in 2 weeks OP and I also know all about them being grounded (my dd will be able to drive in 2 weeks but we moved it to 3 weeks as part of a punishment).

I'll be reading these with interest. My dd is also a junior and I asked her if she would like the Kindle, I thought it would be great since she is in a college prep school but she said she likes the feel of books better. How about a Kindle?

We have done this the last couple of years. We decided that they had enough "stuff" and started doing a concert or Broadway show for a combined birthday/Christmas gift. We have seen some good shows!

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

So funny - I love the 17 things I love about you - and right now I might have to stretch to come up with. Not because I dont love but because she is a drama-driven and can make a good thing into a negative!

This year was the year of the Nook in my family. There was a total of 7 purchased for Christmas presents. If she likes to read then this would work. I know you said she has gift cards left but maybe you could get something for her car? Like a carwash or gas cards? Depending on what you want to spend what about a nice purse or a gift card for a nice handbag? Good luck!
