What are my chances of getting a studio at 7 months out for Marathon weekend, January 8-11 (Thurs-Sun)? My DH is going to be running the half marathon and wants to be close to the action, also so he can run around the lagoon instead of the AKV parking lot. (Our home resort)

It will be his first time and it would be nice to be tht close to see him finish. There will only be 3 of us goign down so a studio will work but I will take a 1 bedroom if I have to.

Also during the day Thursday and Some of Saturday morning will just be myself and my (then 5 yr old). Just doing things he likes to do! Woohoo!!

Also, should I book myself a room at AKV now while I'm in my 11 month advantage and then cancel if I book BCV's?? I have almost enough points to do ressies for both resorts for those days, I figure I will just cancel the days as I get them at BCV's. I know I have enough left to do that.

TIA!!

Studios were a hot item for this year's marathon, so I think your plan to book at your home resort at 11 months and then try for BCV is a good one. You might also consider checking for BWV at 7 months if BCV is full. BWV is a larger resort so you might have a better chance and your DH could still run around the lake. Good luck on getting your room and good luck to DH in the race!

You'll have to take a bus to Epcot to see him finish. The race starts at 6AM and unless he is a slow runner, he will finish before Epcot opens. You may have to catch the bus very early to get there to see the finish. He will run to MK and back and won't run around the Boardwalk if he is only doing the half.

Don't plan on leaving early on Sun (Jan 11) because it will be difficult getting out of the resort with the Marathon going on that morning.

Has he registered yet for the Half? It's at 75% full right now after only a month. If he hasn't he needs to do it as soon as possible or he won't be running the Half.

I think I'll try to book AKV tomorrow and then hope for BCV's. I have stayed at BWV's before nad they are okay but I really want to try BC. It will be DH's very first marathon (okay, only half but still) and our AP's expire the day of the marathon so I figured killing a day at SAB would be nice and can't do that from BW.

Normally there is no bus from Y&BC/BCV to the front of Epcot. Is there one for spectators for the end of the half?:confused3

It has been very early in the morning, maybe 5:00 or 5:30AM. The buses for the runners start leaving at about 3:00AM until about 3:30AM.

Just booked AKV's for the dates, got a studio savannah view. All the concierge was taken up. At least we'll be there!

I booked BCV this past year for marathon weekend and changed to BWV at the 7 month window. I think if you call right at the 7 month window you will get what you want.

The buses for the runners run between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM. The race start time is 6:00 AM. It is the easiest way for runners to get to and from the staging area. Non-runners can ride the bus to the staging area and stay with them until the runners move thru the personal item check-in tent. Non-runners are not able to see the start line, but can ride the monorail and watch the runners run thru the Magic Kingdom. Then they may return to the staging area to see the finish of the race.
It really doesn't matter which hotel you book if you are staying on property, unless you want to watch the runners at Epcot.

This year for marathon weekend, I tried to add a room at 6 months out at BWV (already had one room booked). I got 3 of the days right away, and had to waitlist 3 days. But, all the days came through by November - one by one. So - if you are comfortable waitlisting (do day by day wait list - which comes through faster - but has a little risk to it). I had a back up cash reservation at the Dolphin "just in case" - but was able to cancel it without penalty.

Getting around on marathon day was crazy - we tried to walk to Hollywood Studios - couldn't. Boat took forever. Got to park, had to wait forever to the gate because the marathon runners were running. Got into park (finally!) - couldn't cross the runners to get to the Tower of Terror side. Ugh. I don't remember that hassle in 2007! So enjoy a pool morning on marathon day!

This year, we are staying at AKV for Friday through Tuesday of marathon weekend. BTW - I got one of your concierge studios you wanted. :) Called exactly at 9am for 4 days and quickly said "I need Animal Kingdom concierge!" It was a stressful - but I am so excited to try out AKV and in a studio no less!
