We are plainnig our first trip to BCV. My husband and I like to sit on the balcony after the kids go to bed. What are the best views to request? I know it isn't best to request room numbers. But do you request by building or view type?

Unfortunately, there isn't much of a view at BCV. It is a single building built behind the BC on the former employee parking lot. So you can get a view of the Dunes Cove pool with the parking lot behind it. Or the courtyard area that looks over to the BC. Or the woods behind the BC and BCV where you sometimes can see Illuminations at night. But not all the woods views have Illuminations views.

None of the views are spectacular by any means as has been stated many times here on the DIS. With that being said it will depend on what it is that will make you happy.

Things to consider:
First floor vs. upper floor
Closer to elevators
Closer to main resort, hence Marketplace, Bus stop, main lobby
Closer to self parking
Keep in mind that the distance between the furthest location from the main lobby and closest is no more then a couple of minutes walk.

Personally I prefer the pool view, solely because of the activity. And I always request upper floors.

I prefer the courtyard view, then the pool/parking lot view and then the woods view. We were once at the end of the hall and I didn't think it was too much of a walk so being close to an elevator or to BC is a non issue here (for us at least). Most important for me is an upper floor.

I have stay there twice and requested top floor and gotten a view of the courtyard and a view of woods. Both were close to the elevator. Not much of a view on either side but the woods view facing Epcot you saw a few fireworks everynight.
