I will be purchasing 300 points at BCV. My question is, when should I start my use year? I will be visiting in September and Feb or March each year. I live in Florida, so I will have no problem using all of my points each year. I want to be in a position to get the most points I can with my use year. Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Tom R.

First, you can only purchase the use years being offered when you buy. These change from month to month and I am not sure which use-years are being offered at BCV right now...perhaps someone else knows...

Assuming that the use years you want are available for sale right now... here are some thoughts that might help you decide.

Many people find it helpful for their typical vacation times to fall within the first six months of your use year. That way, if a problem arises and you have to cancel vacation plans, you still have time to bank 100% of your points. If you have to cancel with short notice and your points go into a holding account, you would have six months to use them before they disappear. If you vacation late in your use year, banking options and holding account options will be limited if you must cancel a vacation.

When planning your vacations, are you more likely to go in february or march? If february, then September would be a good choice so both vacation times fall in the first 6 months.

If March will be more common, it doesn't matter so much because there is no way to get both vacations into your first six months. In this case, i would try to get a use year for which the vacation with the most unpredictability will fall into your first six months.

Feb would be a great choice in this situation. It works for you and you would get the most points at the start.
