does anyone know if they are doing the BCV room refurb this year? saw the regular bc rooms and the decor/refurb looked very nice. thanks! can't find any post with this info and remember reading about it somewhere.popcorn::

On the Y&BC thread there are posts about the villas being in the process of refurb. Sounds like they are going top to bottom. I don't know how far along they are, but I'll find out in a few short days :cool1: :cool1:

thanks DznyDreamz. looking forward to finding out after you get back if you wouldn't mind posting. have a great trip!!!:flower3:

I didn't see anything over Christmas except painting outside between the Villas and the Beach Club.

We had one night in a Beach Club room during our trip -- it was pretty nice with the flat screen TV and all, but I thought our Villas rooms were fine too! I don't really need a flat screen TV on my Disney vacation (in fact, I just wish they would have some better channels to pick from!).

I sure will !! I hope the Villas have been completed. We stayed in the refurbed BC rooms in October and they were really nice. I know I could have bigger problems in my life, but it would be much better if the Villas were just as nicely appointed as the cash rooms :)

BCV needs a serious decor makeover. The exterior is lovely, but the interiors look like they shopped at a surplus or thrift store -- nothing matches. I've always been perplexed with the odd combinations of colors and patterns. We bought there last spring due to location and SAB but I'm frankly a little embarassed to take our extended family this summer due to the shabby state of the rooms. I bet I'm not the only BCV owner who feels this way -- I notice photo threads always have TONS of exterior shots, but very few interior.

The decor is so dated and tacky compared to the classy updated look at the BC resort. The BCV beds also look rock-hard compared to the updated plush, pillowy beds at BC. I also sometimes wonder if they rotate the old hard goods (TVs, etc.) out of the cash resorts and into the villas before retiring them completely.

We were just at Beach Club Villas over Thanksgiving and thought that the unit was very clean, bright, cheery and comfortable :thumbsup2 . Sofa beds were great and easy to use, and the regular beds were great! No complaints here except that our trip was too short and I need more points!

They replaced all the sleeper sofas and mattresses in 2007. They are constantly painting, cleaning, repairing the villas. Flat screen tvs would come out of our dues as would any other big changes.

:sad2: BCV is on our "short list" for next summer along with BWV and we are trying to decide what / where. Our 7 month booking window opens in like 6 days. I was wondering if this type of thing might be a problem at either of those resorts. We encountered a unit in bad need of a refurb at OKW when we stayed there 2 summers ago and I want to avoid that disappointment.

Now I don't know what to do.:confused3 I was thinking BCV for SAB and for the onsite dining options... Oh poo!

BCV is a wonderful resort and don't worry about having a bad room. In our over 20 DVC stays, we have never had a bad room. We'll be at BCV this summer again for nine nights.

If you do find a problem in your villa, call maintenance to fix it and they will be over in a snap. On our very first stay right after the resort opened, we had a problem with the sliding patio door. Called maintenance and they were there and out in less than 30 minutes.

We stayed at BCV last January. It was fine. There was a big snag in the carpet in the master though.

I was in room 320 in BCV second week in december 2008. The entire third floor had just been rehabbed. We were the first persons in our room.
Anyway, all the carpets, curtains & bedding had been replaced.
I met & spoke with the manager a few days later (abour 10th dec)
who stated that the soft refurb of the BCV was to be fully finished by christmas, as they had already done the top floors and only had half of the 2nd floor and all of the 1st to do.

They have no firm plans to rehab BCV to get the tv's, but he did say that they was an 'allocation' in the budget for further rehabs to the BCV in November 2009, which may or may not include new tv's.

Take from that what you wish :-)

thanks for all the info!

another question... do the BCV (that have been refurbed) have a similar bedding/style to the BC rooms? that new decor/bedding looks great. those fluffy white blankets look so comfy. would love to have a room with that type of bedding.

and yes, i know this is really unimportant in the grand scheme; but it is my birthday trip and the first one as a family ;)

We just stayed in 334 and 372 over Christmas. I have no complaints -- it was all fine for me. My only comment -- the sofa beds in both of our rooms were stained in numerous places -- they were kind of icky looking. If they are only a year old as a PP said, they really ought to do some better cleaning of the cushions and skirts. Other than that, I thought the rooms were both fine -- not too shabby, but they didn't look recently refurbished to me either. I couldn't know for sure because we hadn't stayed there before.

As for bedding, our bedding/comforters in our BCV rooms was NOT the same as the bedding in our BC room (4617).

THe sofa beds / beds etc were not replaced. It was simply the bedding / curtains etc and the hallway carpets that were done in the same style as before. A minor cleanup more than a rehab to be fair. THe bedding is not the same as the Beach club hotel.

Confirm that the BCV rooms are no longer similar to the main BC. THe BCV rooms are far poorer in quality of fixtures and fittings. Something needs to be done to both the Boardwalk villas and the Beach club villas to bring them up to the level of the main hotels.

The problem is that BCV (in particular) is only 6+ years old having opened midway thru 2002. DVC presented model units at the time of the sale and essentially said "this is what you are buying." There was no guarantee that they would sink millions of dollars into a refurb after such a short period of time simply because technology and tastes had changed.

All resort Capital Reserves budgets include dollars for Interior Refurbishment. The timeframe for the use of those dollars runs up to 25 years from opening. Although some of the dollars will certainly be spent a little at a time, I suspect the full-blown "tear the rooms down and rebuild" process isn't scheduled until that midway point has been reached. OKW will probably serve as the barometer. Its rooms still largely appear as they did back in 1991. Perhaps in another 6-7 years we will start to hear how Disney plans to use that money.

Small changes may still work their ways into the normal replacement process (specifically flat panel TVs), but I wouldn't expect anything on the scale of the BC or BWI cash room refurb for many years to come.

THe sofa beds / beds etc were not replaced. ....

The mattresses and sleeper sofas were replaced in Spring 2007. We stayed there in June 2007 and got the newer sleeper sofa and a very comfortable mattress.

We just returned and they are currently working on the second floor. Half of the second floor was not accessible via the main elevators, guests staying on the second floor had to use the other elevator.

I asked an english speaking housekeeper what the new rooms look like and she told me, "exactly like the old one's except the rug is slightly different".

The rehab is not major like the one at the BC. They are only replacing the comforters with "new" comforters not newly designed ones. The curtains are getting cleaned but not replaced however the sheers are new. I was told the furniture was getting rehabbed and the new rug.

Guests and members should not expect a new high end look like the Beach Club got, we are still the ugly step sisters....:( Unfortunately!

They are repainting however, at least we get fresh paint!

BTW, our room was dirty upon check-in, especially the balcony! I called four times to have someone come and remove the numerous bird nests out there but in the week we were there, no one ever came. The last person I spoke too said it hadn't been done because they needed "pest" management to do it. I would hate if there was a rodent infestation and they reacted so slowly.

I will be writing a letter this coming week, I know nothing will come of it except maybe the guests who stay there in a month or so will get a balcony they can sit out on....
