Hi - I am not a DVC owner (yet) but am looking into buying at the BCV. I have read the pros and cons on various posts on disboards and have a few questions...

1. If BCV is my Home Resort then I can book 11 mo in advance right? If so, I have seen posts where people say they have problems getting the rooms they want at their home resort booking 11 mo out? How is this possible. For example if I wanted to travel X-mas week and had BCV home resort and I called EXACTLY 11 months in advance first thing in AM then how is it possible to NOT get the room???

2. I have seen posts pertaining to "buy where you want to stay" but I can't seem to find them now. Can someone point me in the right direction and/or offer advice??

Thanks

Jamie

If you call at the 11 month window, you will get a room. If you are planning on Christmas week, I would probably call early in the morning, and maybe day by day to be assured of getting what you want, but if you do that, you WILL get a ressie.

I have not seen any posts on this board that ever that said that a BCV member could not get their first choice of dates and accomodations if they called at the 11 month window. As Diane posted, for some popular times, it is best to call each day to be absolutely sure of getting your first choice, but for the BCV, I don't think that is really necessary - even for Christmas week

There have been several posts here that indicated the poster was not happy with their specific room assignment even though they booked at 11 months. Perhaps that is what you remember.

DVC members do not reseve specific rooms - just dates and room type/size. The specific room is assigned at check in (or just a few days before arrival). Requests for specific views / locations are not guaranteed, but the CMs try to honor as many as they can.

There is no priority (for granting requests) given to members based on when they book. BCV usually assigns rooms using a "room ready" policy. That basically means rooms are assigned based on when in the day you check in and what rooms are clean and ready for occupancy. Many members like this system and many do not. I prefer the "old" system in which room were pre-assigned and those who booked first had a better chance of getting their requests met. Even then, requests were never guaranteed and it was certainly possible to get a room that did not meet any of your requests.

HTH.

Best wishes -

There was a post where a BCV member was calling at the 11 month window day-by-day and when he asked if the MS operator could look ahead to see if he would have any problems getting the room for the entire stay, the MS operator said that there were a couple of days that looked to be sold out.

Here is the thread....

FYI BCV is not and has not used the room ready system. We just stayed there in May and they had assigned rooms. I spoke with a CM in length about this and she stated that BCV has not gone to that system yet. I am a big fan of room ready and was bummed that I had to wait until 4:30 to get into a room. After the long wait I got none of my requests anyway. To the OP you will get what you are looking for at 11 months.

Obviously, not all BCV owners can be at the resort at the same time! For a high demand week it is possible that you may be competing for a room even at the 11 month window. AT BCV I would suggest that this might apply to 2BR with guaranteed 2Q as there are not many of them.

I'm sure you won't have any problem at 11 months - or probably even 8 months, unless you have a pretty unusual request and/or are booking during one of the very peak times. If you read the entire thread that Carol gave you the link for, you'll find that it seemed to be a case of MS error. My guess is the MS CM couldn't bring the availability up because the 11 month window had not opened for those dates yet.

Here's a link to a discussion of that, along with a lot of other buying decision info. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=778634

I also bumped the thread up for others.

That case turned out to be an operator error. They were able to get all their days by booking day by day.

I thought it was proved on that one that the CM was ignorant, because on the next day, he was able to call and he eventually got what he wanted.

We booked December BCV 2BR at 11 month window with no problem. We later decided to add a Saturday and Friday evening to the stay a few months later and had no problem. I asked about non dedicated units and was told none were available, only dedicated units. So at the 11 month window if you call early for the most desirable dates you should be OK. Until all the lock off studios and 1 BRs are gone there should be plenty of 2 BRs.

Booking day by day to be told that "upcoming days may be a problem" sounds like urban legend to me. How can days that can't even be booked yet be in short supply?

While I believe that the CM told you that, my recollection is that many others have reported differently. Even with "Room Ready", it is very possible to have to wait to get a room. Even the resorts that profess to use "room ready" do pre-assign some rooms. My understanding is that this is usually for medical, HA and "near-by" requests.

If you go at a particularly busy time, you will probably get exactly what you want booking day-to-day at the 11 month window in the morning. You may have some problems if you wait a couple of weeks into the 11 month window, but you should be able to be placed on the waitlist.

From what I have read, booking every day of your reservation at 11 months is only necessary at BCV at very popular times; Christmas, Easter, Early December?, and Food and Wine Fes.? . Even during those times if you book your room later, but before the 7 month mark, there is a good chance that going on the waitlist will work. I have never heard of someone that could not get a unit at BCV at 11 month from their vacation dates. The only time I have heard of someone having this problem was with a Grand Villa during Christmas (OKW Home Resort). I would suspect that you might run into this problem only with a GV during Christmas and Easter.

Yes, that was me. It was quite strange...On the first day of a day-by-day booking (at the 11-month window), the MS CM asked how many days I would eventually be booking for. When I replied "seven", she informed me that two of the nights (just two for some reason) would not be available. I was flabbergasted at how that could be the case when she was looking at dates a couple of days beyond the 11-month window! However, I just kept calling day-by-day and never had a problem on any of the subsequent days completing my reservation. Maybe the CM I got was on her first day on the job?! :confused3 :teeth:

Regardless of my rather odd experience :earsboy: , I agree with the other posters that there never should be a problem booking at the 11-month window. :teeth:
