OK DVCers, I know you guys are the group that knows all; I'm hoping you can offer some assistance.

Our grand gathering of 8 is doing a split stay this December, and 1 member of our party is asking for information about golfing and the courses. I'm not a golfer, so I have to try and find info for them from people who golf.

First, what golf course is around/through OKW? Is it LBV?

Is there a good place to pull and print info from? (I tried allears, but I only found miniature golf.)

Do you recommend any courses more than others, or are they all good? (I thought about recommending the one by OKW so it's close and we can watch her go by on the course. )

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

The golf course that runs through OKW (and SSR) is indeed the Lake Buena Vista course. All the courses are good courses, I think the most scenic (and difficult) one is Ospry Ridge. I'd suggest you look at a non-official site: http://www.wdwgolf.com for additional info.

LBV is currently under renovation, however I think it is due to reopen before december. I would suggest Osprey and Magnolia as my first two choices. It is neat winding through OKW at LBV, but it is probably my least favorite course. Perhaps after the renovation is complete I'll think differently, but for now thats my suggestion!

If golf is a large part of the trip, I would recommend golfing off-site if you have a car. Disney courses, while pretty good courses, are insanely overpriced. I've played them all, and while it it "ranked" the worst (and is the cheapest), I probably enjoyed LBV the most. If money is no object, I agree that Osprey and Mangolia would be the ones to play, however.

If you do have a car and don't mind a 20-30 minute ride, there are several course outside of WDW that I would highly recommend. Particularly Celebration Golf Club (which is only 10 minutes off property) and Southern Dunes in Haines City (about 30 minutes). They are cheaper (relatively speaking) and much better courses.

I know real golfers don't respect it, but there is always Oak Trail. Reasonably priced and they let you walk (my big issue).

If you play after 10am, all the green fees drop to around $50 which is in line with what the other area courses are charging....

Your right, we don't.....;)

Have you ever played it? I think very highly of Oak Trail. DH and DS played there many years back because DS, who'd never played golf before wanted to try. DH was about a 2 handicap, and he wasn't too sure if a 9 hole walking course would be fun. Well, both of them really enjoyed the course-DH enjoyed it, and DS wasn't too overwhelmed. Any course that can interest golfers of such different skill levels can't be all bad!

I'm just being humorously snobbish, I am sure it's a very nice little course. I just typically don't play executive courses unless its for practice. When I play, I prefer to play a full 18 on a full size course to truly gauge my score.

Oak Trail may be an easy course (34 rating, 113 slope) and is a bit short at just under 3000 ft. But it counts as a full-sized par-36 9 and is by no means an executive course.

Then I stand corrected, I thought it was a Par-3 or executive course. Since I prefer to play a full 18, I usually don't play 9-hole courses either unless nothing else is available.

I thought of that AFTER I wrote my reply.

During this time frame the general rates for the golf do not drop after 10AM. The DVC golf members can play after 10AM for $50.00 per person, but you have to be a DVC owner and buy the DVC annual membership for $50.00 for the year. In Dec the only break in the general greens fees are the twilight rates late in the afternoons.
