Since the incentives for stays at Disney Resorts seem to be transferable, what do you think will be the implications? Will anyone sell them to reduce their overall cost? Or will you be inclined to use them or give them away? How about the tax implications for donating the nights to a charity?

I know for my family it would be hard to stay in a hotel room after being spoiled by a 2BR Villa for my past few trips to Disney. I would be inclined to bring family along if I could get them a room near where I am staying.

Some of the incentives don't make sense - like offering a room at the moderates! If I buy 100 points, I can choose between $500 off on my purchase, or 3 nights in a Caribbean Beach room???? LOL - that's laughable!

However, the value of the room at some of the deluxe resorts could exceed the $500, but if I could find a discounted rate that would be less than $500 for the 3 nights, then I'd be foolish to not take the $500 off my purchase. Assuming they're standard view rooms, it'd be easy during these economic times to find a *deal* on a cash room rate.

The *free* rooms (that we'd really be paying $5/point for) would only really work for people who travel solo or as a couple - it'd be hard for people used to a 1 or 2br unit to suddenly stay in an ordinary room - but maybe over a weekend to save points it'd be more acceptable ;-)

wdw1972,

I really disagree. I think in some cases the free trip is the better choice.

In our case, we are thinking of buying 275 points. That would entitle us to a 10 day free trip at the Poly. or we could save $1375 on our purchase. Now, the free trip can be used until July 2003. We would want to go on the trip in April 2003. I don't think anyone can predict what the economy will be like 14 months from now, so I don't think we can count on getting rooms at the Poly for less than $137.50 a night (which is what we'd have to pay to make getting the $1375 a better deal).

Also, we will have a 3 1/2 year old and an 8 month old at that time. I would certainly not feel comfortable keeping them in a separate room while they are that young (that's just me), so the single room is not a detraction. And being right on the monorail when dealing with 2 strollers and a diaper bag will be a particular delight.

I do agree with you that staying at the Caribbean would be a poor choice under any circumstances. But I think only poor planning would put anyone in a situation where they would have to stay there.

Anyway, I think both incentives can work out for different people under different circumstances. I actually think it's nice that we have a choice.

I agree with invalid (love the name!) if you can use the hotel say it may be a better deal. I asked my guide why the moderates are on the plan and she said it was to cover them if the deluxes were full. If you plan ahead, you should have no problem getting what you want. We are the exception in that we are travelling over the holidays which are blacked out so we will take the $$ instead

kem330,

I sometimes wonder if we're related. I've noticed that we seem to agree on everything! :)
