BCV 2-Bedroom - Dedicated vs. Lock Off?

Hi! We will be staying in a BCV 2-bedroom villa for the first time in April! I'm just wondering, is the only difference between a dedicated 2-bedroom and a lock-off the fact that there would be no exterior door (to the outer hallway) from the 2nd bedroom in a dedicated? And also no kitchenette in the 2nd bedroom, as well, if it's a dedicated. Is that correct?

We really just want a higher floor villa close to the main resort building and I'm not sure if I should even request a dedicated or lock-off? Is one better than the other? We don't need a kitchenette and I really don't want the exterior door in the 2nd bedroom, but those are not deal breakers if it means we have a nicer view and we are closer to the main building.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

The dedicated also has two full size beds, instead of one bed and a pullout.

For my family we prefer the dedicated but maybe that'll change as the kids get older? Only benefit i really see to the Lock off is if we were going to have parents or another family traveling with us then you could each have your own space.

Not at Beach Club unless you have a room with 2 queens booked. I think you already have a room booked and if the room is booked the type of room- dedicated or lock-off is already determined.

Thanks for the info everyone! I guess I should have mentioned, it's a cash reservation booked through Disney, not a points reservation. Does that make a difference? I think I would prefer a dedicated if available, but honestly just happy I snagged one kind of last minute!

Even on a cash reservation you actually have a room type assigned but you may not know what it is- seems like something that is silly to request because either you have booked it or not. They may not show which it is but since the rooms are booked that way for DVC they are turned over to DCR in the same manner. I would guess you probably have a dedicated but they likely won't tell you for sure as if they needed to change it for maintenance purposes they wouldn't have you getting upset over getting the wrong room.

Good to know! Ok, so is it still worth requesting maybe a high floor with a nice view? Or is the room number assigned at time of booking, too?

Thanks so much for all the info!

The room itself is not assigned at booking so you can request a high floor- as far as a nice view it depends on the kind of view you want- some overlook the quiet pool, other rooms the parking lots, and other the service road to Epcot (which can also give you a view of Illuminations but can be loud whenever they are running service trucks). I haven't stayed there myself but have never heard about any amazing views- if you do a search on views you might see more about rooms to request. If you want a large balcony you need to make that a request from what I have read.

Though room type may be assigned at reservation time, actual rooms do not get assigned until closer to arrival. At 60 days out or less you can check in online and you will be able to make some room requests but only those listed in that check-in page, high floor may be one them; for DVC we can call Member Services and make more specific requests. I do not know if that is true for cash ressies through Disney.

When you pay cash it will be a two bedroom dedicated by default and at the Beach Club it will be a two bedroom dedicated without the two queens in the 2nd bedroom. Now this is not to say that at times you will get something different due to some issue that prompted that but default with cash is dedicated.

That was our experience when we book a 2 bedroom for cash. It is my understanding that they do not book the 2 queen dedicated bedrooms for cash ever.

I just wanted to thank everyone who responded to my question! We are here now and Sammie was absolutely right! We got a dedicated 2 bedroom with a queen and pullout in the 2nd bedroom. We are on the ground floor with a woods view. It's wonderful! Thank you, again!
