Any Pros or Cons about these resorts with a wheelchair? We are trying to decide between the three .We need a room with a roll in shower. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

They are all basically in similar locations and were built at about the same time, so the handicapped rooms should be fairly similar.

One disadvantage I can see to Boardwalk is that I guess you could say it was built on a hill. The entrance from the front is on one level and that is where the lobby is. The Boardwalk area is one level down and when on the Boardwalk are, you will need to take the elevator back up.

BC/YC are not built like that and you can walk right out on ground level from both the front and the back.

My family loves the beach club for the accessibility of rooms. A roll in shower was a must for us with transfers for my sister and I can tell you I have neevr stayed in a more accesible hotel room ever.

I do know YC is very similar so I recommend either of those. The only problem we ever had with BW is the hill that has been mentioned, meaning spending even more time waiting for elevators.

Thanks for the info! :thumbsup2
Are there 2 beds with a roll in shower?
From the BC/YC can you see any fireworks????????

We stayed at The Bw last June.My brother is in a motorized wheelchair and had a completely ADA room ie roll in and grab bars etc.He loved it. The room was huge. At the BW the room was on ground level so taking the elevator up was needed but he didn't mind.He did happen to have 2 quenn beds in his room but I think most ada rooms are kings.

What about ease of transportation at these resorts? I'm trying to pick the best and resort besides me, my dh and dd going my parents are also looking to come and my dad has trouble walking far around the resorts to get to the transportation, he wants it as easy as possible. So, I have them to worry about as well as finding a place for us with the roll in shower for my DD. UGHHHHHHHHHHH I hope I pick the right one !!!

We are DVC owner's at the Beach Club. My DH is confined to a WC, we love the BC because of the easy access to our favorite park Epcot. The Beach Club has a very short walk (less than 5 minutes) into the World Showcase. You can also take a boat to the World Showcase, to MGM, Boardwalk or Swan/Dolphin.

The Beach Club is the closest of these resorts to the World Showcase. It is also a smaller resort so there is not too much walking within the resort. The Beach Club & YC share the Storm-a-long Bay, which IMO is the best pool on property! The restaurants are centrally located between the two resorts.

We have not stayed at the Boardwalk, so I can't offer much on it. Other than it's pretty large & layed out in a way that could cause for a lot of walking.

I know you didn't mention this one, but my other recommendation for anyone with difficulty getting around would be the Polynesian. It has the best & easiest access to Magic Kingdom (the ferry or monorail).

We stayed at the POLY last trip. Our problem is that we stayed CL and they did not have a roll in shower so we had to bring my DD transfer chair which was a bit of a pain.

We are looking to do CL again and I am hoping that BC/YC offer wheelchair accessible rooms on that floor.

IS SAB WC accessible? I know the POLY had zero entry which was great but I am worried about SAB with the sandy bottom it would be impossible.

Thanks for the info!

SAB & WC accessibility is something we've had a letter writing campaign going on with DVC & WDW, for about 2 years! IMO, no it is not accessible. Although many disabled people seem happy with the transfer steps, it doesn't work for us.

At one point before we purchased there we were told SAB was a zero-entry pool. The only area that is zero entry is the child's sand play area, with a water depth of about 2 foot deep. The zero entry area is covered in sand & the sand is deeper for play in that section. So it sounds like this won't work well for you either.

All other areas of SAB need to be accessed by those transfer steps. The quiet pools & hot tubs also have only transfer steps. No lifts, ramps or anything else. Those steps are useless for my DH with MD! More of a danger than anything else.

We do not understand, why simple pool lifts have not been installed along SAB or the quiet pools. This would be a simple and relatively inexpensive answer. We have recieved several call backs from them on our letters but pretty much the same pat answer of "We have received your letter and it is being forwarded to the proper dept".

You have me wondering now. :confused3 Are there any WDW resorts that offer roll-in shower rooms on a "true" Concierge level floor & have a "true" zero entry pools????

Maybe Animal Kingdom Lodge??

p.s. BTW I LOVE your Johnny pics in your siggie!!!!

Both the Polynesian and GF have concierge rooms with rollin showers. The accessible rooms in Hawaii at the Polynesian are new. At least one has a rollin shower as we've booked it for an upcoming trip. Both accessible rooms are gardenview.

At the GFG, there is a room with a rollin shower in Sugar Loaf. We've stayed in that room three times. Another DISser has stayed in one in Royal Palm Club which is the main building.

I didn't know that the Poly added new accessible room(s) w/rollin shower that were concierge!

Zero entry pool and concierge level rollin shower room!

Oh that's good to know, thanks! :goodvibes ( Now if only it would be DVC too, we'd be in Mickey Heaven! )

The transfer steps would not work for us either....Oh well, I guess we won't have much use for the pool area or SAB :headache:

When we were at the POLY in 2007 we were told there were no roll in shower rooms in the Hawaii Bldg. I am glad to hear they have one now.

As for the pictures of Johnny      he is just so handsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, sad to say, I've only been in the pool once because DH just can't get in. Our 5 year old niece really enjoyed the heck out of it though!

If you aren't booking BC due to the lack of HA accessibility to the pool, please consider writing or calling them, to let them know why. We have felt like we are beating our heads against a wall on this (or more appropriately the pool transfer steps)! I would love for them to know we are not the only people who find this a problem!

As for Johnny, aren't you being proper... handsome? well not quite what I was going to say about that shirtless pic! HOT, HOT, HOT!!! ;)

We are still undecided which resort will be the best fit for us. I am mostly concerned about the room and ease of transportation. However, if we decide to book the BC I will voice my concerns about the pool not being HA.

The shirtless picture is a beauty but my favorite Johnny Depp look is Captain Jack. If I ever had a wish granted to meet him I would have to request that he wears his pirate outfit :rotfl: :rotfl:

The bus system seems to run pretty quickly at BC/YC & easy walk to WS & boats to MGM. We have only stayed in the DVC villa rooms, but the roll in shower rooms are big & work perfectly for us.

And on your Johnny wish, I totally agree! here's to hoping it could happen!:wizard:

Good luck on the resort decision! :goodvibes PM & let me know what you decide!
