I have seen discriptions of what the YC concierge offers.
Is it basically the same for the BC as well?
Bottom line..is it worth it?

Pretty much the same thing for both.

Worth it is subjective--will you eat that much more food--it's highly unlikely, the offerings in the lounge are not meant to replace meals (except breakfast). Staying concierge level is for an upgraded level of privacy and service. If these are things you are comfortable paying more for, then enjoy yourself. Otherwise, you'll feel that you wasted money and would be better off in a non-CL room.

I just returned from the YC and the lounge did not impress me at all. If that was the deciding factor on whether to stay in concierge, I'd pass. I definitely utilized their pre-planning services to the utmost and I had the staff take care of a few things for me while I was on site. I think they are top notch in this regard.

Tammi, the lounge wasnt that great? How about the offerings? And how were the rooms/views? Im asking because we are doing a split stay at the YC and AKL. 3 nights at the YC and 2 at the AKL...now im thinking maybe we should stay longer at the AKL instead of the YC...what do you think?

Hi Taurus,

The first thing that I didn't like about the lounge is that it's only open during certain hours. Beyond that, they close the doors and you can't even go in and sit down. In the morning, they open at 7am, but at 6:30, they do put coffee outside the door for early risers. Breakfast offerings included cold cereal, oatmeal packets, assorted fruit, pastry, croissants, bagels and donuts. I'm pretty sure it ended at around 10:30 and then the lounge would close up until 11am. From then until 4pm, you could get chocolate pudding snack packs, gold fish, pretzels, assorted nuts and cookies. They would close again until 5pm when they would reopen with some wines & beers, pb&j sandwiches, cheese & crackers, assorted vegetables & dip, soup and one other hot dish. The only night we were in there at that time it was some sort of beef with onions. At 7pm they close and reopen at 8pm with Baileys, Kalhua, Congac, rice krispie treats and some small assorted pastries. They closed promptly at 10pm. I know, because we were asked to please leave on more than one occassion. They did have newspapers available, with water in the glass bottle, iced tea, lemonade and sodas are located under the banquet. The only other Disney concierge service that I have to compare this to is the Grand Floridian. They offer a much larger selection and their lounge is always open.

I had a garden view room reserved and we looked out over the parking lot. It wasn't nice, but I didn't plan on spending much time on our balcony, so it wasn't really a big deal to me. The size of the room was fine and both mousekeeping and turn down service did an excellent job. Every staff member that we ran into on that floor was cheerful.

The convenience to MGM, Epcot and the Boardwalk is priceless though. We were literally a 3 minute walk to the International Gateway at Epcot. MGM was probably closer to 10 minutes and we took the resort boat on most occassions. My 2 older kids (19, 14) loved that they could hop right into the park at any time. We even walked over just to have Fish & Chips for lunch at the Rose & Crown.

Hope that helps,
Tammi

I wonder if the YC is the only one that closes? Do you think we should stay at the AKL for 3 nights and the YC for 2? Anyone have any idea?

Taurus -

We stayed at AKL concierge in March for 5 nights. The lounge doesn't close at anytime. There are no doors to close :). It is an open area on the 6th floor overlooking the lobby. There is juice and iced tea available all day until they clear everything out at 10pm.

Are you planning to do either the Sunrise or Sunset Safaris? This could influence your choice on when to stay at AKL as they are only offered on certain days.

Is your family pool crazy? They will love Storm along bay and the AKL pool will seem tame to them in comparison.

Just some things to add to your "easy" decision making. :)

The YC pool will be under construction when we are there, and the slide will close on Jan 3rd...So I really dont know what to think about that. We enjoy pools, but can take it or leave it. I like the location of the YC, as there is only so much to do at the AKL... We are doing the Sunset Safari on Wed...so i dunno...we like to be doing things and dont like to sit around all day, so maybe the YC area is good?

If you want to stay in the Epcot area then stay at the BW concierge. I have stayed at bothe the YC and BC concierge and I find the BW far superior. The planners are shared by all 3 resorts and they are wonderful. The lounge at the BW is always open and it is roomy and very comfy. The cast are great and very helpful. It is the only place my husband and I stay now.

Taurus, the YC has 2 pools. One is on the end of the resort and it's open all the time. The other is SAB which was open from 10am-8pm while we were there. The temps were in the mid-60's, which was nice for us coming from chilly New England, but I don't think we saw more than 6 people in the pool each day. To use the slide, you have to exit the pool, go across the walkway (open to all foot traffic), then climb a ladder. It wasn't far, but my kids did it only 2 or 3 times because it was too cold getting out of the heated pool. If you like to keep busy, then I think the YC is definitely where you want to be for the extra day.

Kerry, you have definitely convinced me with your posts. We would like to do a split stay next year and spend an equal amount of time at an MK resort and an Epcot resort. I'm going to choose the GF and BW.

I just stayed in Beach club concierge last month. I don't know if you can find it, but I reported on the stay and gave a detailed list of all the offerings and times. The lounge at the Beach club is almost identical to that of the Yacht Club, and the offerings are the same. I had a tour of the Yacht Club and Boardwalk Inn concierge rooms and lounge while at the Beach club.

I think that concierge is more cost effective when you are staying at a more remote resort, personally. Although I enjoyed our Beach club stay, the offerings were not worth the added cost, in my opinion. One of the main reasons is that the resort is located in the middle of everything, so there is no shortage of great food available. The offerings in the lounge were okay, but the food available in the eateries at Epcot and on the Boardwalk and even at Beaches and Cream are far superior. I found all the goldfish and cheese plates in the lounge pretty much superfluous. I didn't really use the services of the concierge staff because I like to plan things myself (fun part of it for me), and the view from our room was only so-so. We were on the fifth floor and primarly looked across the courtyard at another room of rooms. I guess you would call it a terrace view. Not terrible but nothing like looking at the Boardwalk and lake. You could see the lake if you stood on one end of the balcony and kind of leaned over, but its not like we were out there doing that too much :). For a future stay, I would save the money on concierge and get a beautiful water view and eat at the Yachtsman Steakhouse, Le Cellar or the Flying Fish everynight with all the money saved.

On the other hand, when I've done Wilderness Lodge concierge or AKL's concierge it seemed more cost effective. You aren't surrounded by a ton of great eateries so the food seems more appropriate. The lounges (both which overlook the lobby) are much larger and never close, and since these resorts feel more remote, it seems much more conducive to hanging around the resort, snacking and relaxing. My favorite concierge experience was WL, but I am eager to try the concierge service at GFs main building.

Boardwalk's concierge lounge is twice the size of either Yacht or Beach clubs and has the same offerings as the Yacht or Beach club. You can see the higher fireworks from Illuminations in the lounge. It is a very beautifully decorated resort. My favorite remains GF, but from my concierge experiences, I would most highly recommend the WL. And I would say no, I didn't feel the added cost was worth it for concierge at the Beach or Yacht club.

TammiM, I don't think you will be disappointed at all. To me staying concierge is not a matter of "worth" the money as far as the food is concerned. I stay at the BW because of the cast and the pampering I recieve. I do utilize the planning office and the cast at the Innkeeper's Club. They are all so wonderful. I have seen every guest treated as if they are the only ones there at the monment. These people far exceeded any of our expectations and have become good family friends. This is the reason I am willing to pay the extra money to stay here.
I go once a year on a girls only trip with 5-7 friends and we also stay at the BW, can't bring myself to saty anywhere else.

We decided on the BC Concierge- garden view.

We have stayed at Poly lv concierge before because of all the rave reviews it gets on these boards. We enjoyed the concierge service but the Poly was just not my favorite Disney property. The rooms were a bit dark. I prefer the cheerful and brightfulness that the YC and BC bring so we've decided to try their concierge service.
I'm sure we wont be disappointed.

I really enjoyed BC Concierge, there are some photos and info on my website link below.

I think concierge is worth it to me - because I utilize the preplanning services heavily :D

Also, as I have MS and need to take it easy I do spend a lot of time at the resort and enjoy the lounge, the conversation, the concierge staff etc... we always have breakfast there - we are thankfully starting to get past the character breakfast stage.

I hate to say this and I don't mean it in a bad way but when people ask 'is it worth it?' I don't think they understand the concept - it is more than lounge offerings.

I hope you try BC Concierge and have a wonderful vacation
