Hi everyone! My family (DH, 5 and 9 year old children) booked BC for next June but are now thinking about changing to a moderate due to the difference in price. If we book POFQ it would be a savings of about $2300 for the week. We have only been to Disney once, in 2017, and stayed at the Poly. Reason we wanted to stay at BC is due to proximity to DHS since my son loves Star Wars. Would we feel a big difference going from a Deluxe to a Moderate?

We like POFQ as it seems to have the best reviews on transportation among the moderates.

We loved POFQ when we stayed last year with our two littles.

We have not stayed at BC, but have stayed at YC.

This is what you lose staying at POFQ, but $2300 to me is worth it:

-Smaller room at POFQ
-No stormalong bay (but you do have 2 pretty good pools between POFQ and PORS)
-Outward facing rooms at POFQ vs interior of BC
-Viewing of fireworks from BC
-Walking to the parks (EPCOT and HS)

However, I prefer the eating options at POFQ/PORS over the BC and YC.

The difference between POFQ and the BC is huge. The ability to walk to Epcot is amazing, but honestly, I didn’t love the walk to HS from the BC and the boats were time consuming. I find it quicker and easier to hop on a bus from POFQ to go to HS, so I’d pick POFQ. Plus POFQ is way more quiet and relaxing over the BC.

Just my opinion, everyone has different ones, but we have stayed at POFQ and Riverside and then moved up to the deluxes and we will never ever go back to anything non-deluxe. For us it is worth the extra money. We have stayed at the Monorail resorts and the Epcot resorts and we love them all.
We love HS and Epcot so walking to the parks from our room at Boardwalk or
Beach Club is huge for us. We are big walkers, and if we aren't in a hurry, we would rather walk through Epcot and jump on the monorail to MK then take the bus. But there is also of course the boat or skyliner if staying at the Epcot resorts. We also love the convenience of running into Epcot for the food choices or going to some of the hotels around Epcot for different choices as well, as we do not like any of the food choices at the moderates.
Having said all that, the extra savings is huge so that is a purely personal choice and only you can decide if the extra savings is worth it to your family.
We are staying at Boardwalk in May and we are excited to once again walk over to HS for all the new Star Wars stuff.

We've stayed at both. Both are nice and I wanted hesitate to stay at either again however there's definitely a big difference here the 2. Proximity is a big one and also the pool. It's up to you to decide if it's worth the money.

I 100% agree that the food options are pretty bad and very limited at BC/YC. We much prefer POFQ...for actual counter service options. Honestly this us 1 of the biggest reasons for us holding off on returning to the Epcot/Boardwalk area. It's so beautiful, but the lack of counter service options is really disappointing.

If your sons love star wars, then I would stay at BC, just because of the proximity of HS. You could walk there whenever you want, or do the friendship boat. AT POFQ you have to take the bus. We stay at POFQ and it's fine for us, but we don't care for SWGE.
It's an individual thing, but I would vote for BC in your families case.

Will you notice the difference, short answer, yes.

The deluxe resorts have indoor hallways - the moderates have outdoor corridors.
The deluxe resorts have bigger rooms.
The moderate resorts have food courts, although POFQ does have access to the TS at Port Orleans, the deluxe have TS restaurants but no food courts.
The deluxe resorts have hot tubs at the quiet pools, the moderate resorts only have them at the main pool.

Would it be worth it to save the money. Only you can decide that. I've stayed at just about every resort at WDW except, AoA, WL and SS, we have even pulled our RV down and stayed at the Fort. I tend to do split stays with a day or two at a value or moderate then move to Swan/Dolphin, which costs about the same as a moderate but smack dab in the middle of Epcot and HS. You can't charge back to your room, you don't get transport from the airport but otherwise, all the other benefits.

We have found that the deluxes are rarely worth the price difference. I would suggest saving your money and going with POFQ.

We alternate between mod and deluxe when we visit every few years as we want to try to experience as many resorts as we can and not a big deal for us. I would save the money and stay at POFQ. It is one of our favorites.

Boy that is such a personal decision with so many factors to consider. We have stayed both at POFQ and YC and BW. The deluxe hotels are so nice with bigger rooms. Of course BC is very well located to Epcot and DHS and It has SAB. And the Boardwalk has a lot going on. And if you are trying to get to DHS very very early to get in a VQ, you might be better off at BC so you can walk over. And it is easy to walk into Epcot and eat at World Showcase where there is a great variety of food.

But the quick eating options at BC to either get you on your way in the am or just because you are worn out at night are limited at BC. If you plan to commando the parks, I would not spend the $2300 extra for hotel facilities that you won’t be able to enjoy. But if you plan to get to Epcot and DHS early, take a swim break during the day and then walk back into those two parks for evening activities, it might be worth it. Also four people in a room is a bit more comfortable in Deluxe that in Moderate.

Hi! My son (23) and I are staying Boardwalk May 19-24! When are you going?

I've stayed at both BC and POFQ. Each resort is wonderful for different reasons as others have mentioned. For me, I'd save the $2,300 and put it towards another visit to WDW. A person can never have too much Disney.

I have stayed at both. Both are great resorts. But for getting to the Disney Studios easy, have you looked at the Swan or Dolphin?

For me, the location of the Boardwalk area, of being so close to both the Disney Studios and Epcot makes any of the resorts superior to any moderate. I would only switch if your budget is tight and the money will make a big difference to you.

Have you looked at renting dvc points ? It’s a good way to stay deluxe and save some money. Hard to get beach club rooms since they are so popular, which might help answer your question. Boardwalk is also phenomenal. The walk to Hollywood studios is like ten minutes shorter. The location can’t be beat. With kids, the beach club pool is the best on Disney, it’s just about universally agreed. That’s a lot of money to save though. I wouldn’t lose sleep over staying somewhere cheaper that is still on property, but to stay at beach club is to stay at the absolute best basically. The best Disney vacation you can have. Up there with grand Floridian :)

I would like to mix this thread up a little.
If your son a a huge Star Wars fan-
May I suggest Caribbean beach resort?
The skyliner system would have you into dhs in no time.
save you $’s for spends in galaxys edge too!
