Enjoying a lovely trip at Disney and the plan for today is to enjoy the resort pools and relax and also to grill some burgers.

Somehow I thought that last part of the plan was going to potentially be the sticky one given there are very few grills out here.

Well, seems folks woke up early this morning and "claimed" the grills by the Grandstand pool. Walked by and saw charcoal bags in each pit and no one in sight.

Ok - so this irks me. I get that folks want to BBQ - but these little pits are more of a grill and go kinda thing. So I expect folks to be using them to cook and then move on. Not camping them out unattended until such time as they decide to cook. Sorry, but really selfish in my opinion.

Here's hoping I don't get funny looks later if a grill is not being used and I walk through someone's party to use it. :-)

It would not bother me in the least, if not being used, then use it. I can't respect anyone that thinks they can reserve these type of things in advance, it is not restaurant.

Nope, move the bags and use the grills. Maybe someone had left over charcoal and decided to just leave it. Was there anything on the tables? I would do something like that. I've left laundry soap in the laundry rooms plenty of times.

Where the bags new and unopened, any chance Disney put them out for the 4th :confused3 That would be my story if anyone came up later and asked why you were using their charcoal.:)

So the bag of charcoal was in the grill with a lighter on it. So if it was free, Disney went that extra mile. Lol

I just waited for folks to finish grilling. The folks who had left that bag finally cooked at around 1230 - after leaving the bag there since before 10. All that and they just grilled a pack of weenies. :eyeroll:

The other grill had charcoal and the table had a table cloth. That ended up being a larger family BBQ where they grilled for about 2 hours!

Anyway - I just waited and threw on the burgers once pack of weenies left. And thoroughly enjoyed the day. Happy 4th of July!

Pack of weenies left, I love it. :rotfl2:

Glad you got to use it.

You know I don't understand the mentality of this type of person. Do they go to the movie theater hours early and put something on the seat they want.:confused3

Last year we spent the week of July 4th at HHI - I have to say, the grill situation at HHI is a LOT better than at most DVC resorts. They COULD use a few more grills, but overall, the flow tends to work well as long as the person grilling before you an experienced griller.... and the person waiting after you isn't a petulant moron.

I have honestly thought about taking a small magnetic dry erase board to 'claim' a grill around 3:00pm for dinner around 5:30pm or so, with a note...
1)What we would be cooking
2)How long it would take
3)If someone wants to share coals before or after, what time and what they would be cooking.

I almost refuse to light a grill to cook ONLY hotdogs - so if someone else wants to cook hotdogs while we have something else on the grill, I wouldn't mind at all!

We have given a lot of thought to a lot of cooking on our trip to WDW next summer - with a lot of grilling.

Which WDW DVC resorts have the best grill locations, numbers etc?

I wish they would take a page out of the Wyndham Bonnet Creek play book for grills. They have gas grills and lots of them all around the resort. I want to say four grills in at least four different locations. I hate having to schlep charcoal down to the grill while on vacation. Love food cooked on coals better, but on vacation, convenience wins every time!

Now I agree a few gas grills would be the bees knees. I actually just got done grilling some steaks for dinner. So it was a double header of grilling for me! No issues tonight - one grill was open so I just jumped on, got a fire started, and raced a little rain to get them cooked.

Funny thing about today was we were pretty sure we had read that grilling utensils were available for check out. So the other day we asked at horsing around rentals. They said yes they had them, but they were inside at Artist Palette. So we go inside and they say they don't have them.

So I go back outside to community hall and ask again. The guy working the desk tells me they don't have anything like that. Just then, an older cast member walks by, overhears us, and says "yep - we have them right here". Lol - so the crew was more than a little confused about even that.

Oh - and SSR is our home resort and they have 2 small grills for the Grandstand area and I think a similar setup in a couple of other sections.

Now in Treehouse Villas, every treehouse has its own grill. When we've stayed there, I've loved having that.

Don't know about other resorts. Can't remember seeing any when we stayed at Boardwalk Villas.
