Hello! I'd love to take my 5-year-old to the BBB because she would love to dress up like a princess, but I don't think it's a good idea for the following reason:

She hates it when other people touch her hair or nails. She's very, very shy.

I'm afraid she would just sit there and look miserable and maybe even burst into tears if the CMs fuss over her too much.

Honestly, I'm a little selfishly sad because on our 2011 trip, all I wanted to do was bring her back and do the BBB with her. But she's just not a BBB kind of girl...It's okay. I like my girl.

Anyway, she's getting an in-room treatment by Mom before we hit the parks.

She already has several Disney dresses and costumes that she can wear around the parks and I can paint her nails. I thought about checking the dollar store for princess-y accessories that I can buy several of, so if they get lost, it's no big deal.

Any other ideas? Anyone else have a girl like this?

How do you dress up your princesses for the parks if you are skipping BBB?

I wouldn't stress too much. I see more little girls in a princess dress, sneakers and a regular old hair clip than ones that are all fancy schmancy.

My DD is not into the princesses at all. She's more into the fab five, Stitch, Buzz & Woody, etc.

Try to make it a special experience. Something other than mom doing her hair. Can you decorate a "throne" for her to sit at while you get her ready? Call her princess throughout the whole thing. Have her royal juice ready. Use pixie dust (glitter) and princess polish (nail polish).

Can you make a BBB appointment for one of the later days in your trip and early in your trip taking your DD into BBB to see what it is like. Judge her interest/willingness. If she isn’t interested you can cancel within the cancellation period.

We've just returned from a couple of weeks at WDW and Disneyland , and while I'm sure the experience of a Princess makeover is magical for any young girls that get to experience it, I couldn't get over the amount of tacky looking Princesses with mismatched trashy looking 'weaves' that didn't match their hair colourings, wandering around the parks looking like overly painted Honey boo boo's.

but there is nothing more adoreable than the homegrown princesses

The gift shops sell the same mini tiaras they use at BBB. I know Castle Couture carries them. I think they're $12.75 or so.

I know they used to sell the face jewels and Mickey hair clip, too, but I didn't see them in any gift shops on our most recent trip.

Even though DD does do BBB, on the other days of our vacation I put her hair up in a bun like they do at BBB. (That way her hair doesn't get in her face and getting messy/tangled.) It's really not that difficult, and we've had many people comment that it looks just like BBB. (Many times, I put a bow or flower in instead of the tiara.)

On our previous trips my girls have usually just worn a pretty/fancy sundress, tutu or princess t-shirt with cute skirt. Its just so hot to be walking around in those long, itchy princess dresses! I have brought princess dresses along in my bag and they put them on for pics or princess meals but them take off. Most young girls I see walking around are dressed in comfortable summer clothes and not princess gear. Honestly, I like my girls to be comfortable (i.e. happy) and look "natural/normal" in their Disney pictures.

Castle Couture shop in MK will pixie dust your DD's hair for free. Just go ask any CM there, and they'll get a little wand and sprinkle some on her hair. Very cute and no touching involved.

i couldn't snag a rezzie at BBB and promised my 8 yr old that I will give her the sparkle treatment everyday we are there! I'll buy some glitter at the store/paint her nails and bring her "makeup"bag (blush and gloss for VERY special occasions). She is super excited! I like this idea so much better as it looks like it would take a while to get the shellac out of her hair and we aren't tied to another "appointment". Also, we got a cute, simple tiara at Claires from the mall.

When we went for MNSSHP we found a really cool body glitter that looked like what they use at BBB. It was from Claire's and so we used if for all of us to have a little extra sparkle for they party.

Maybe as an extra touch - buy ked type shoes that might match her dress to pull her look together and keep her comfortable.

Hmmmm. I never considered a little girl feeling special tacky.

We got an appointment for the Pirates League instead. The mermaid has some cool face paint that seems to be the main focus. They don't do much with the hair.

We like to make appointments at the Harmony Barber Shop. Their prices are very reasonable ($15) and they cut your child's hair, style it, and sprinkle it with pixie dust. We scheduled the appointment right before our Anna and Elsa fastpass and have dinner at BOG scheduled just after that. I prefer the Harmony Barber Shop look to the BBB look.

I was going to say both these things. They sell the same crowns at the World of Disney and Castle Couture and a few other places. You could pick up something like that and do her hair and nails yourself. They also do the pixie dust at Castle Couture, which my 4 year old loved.
