Bay Lake Tower or Poly?

I am NOT Disney savvy whatsoever, but we are planning to make a 1-week trip to Disney World in about 1 year. I am already getting very excited and have been researching where we should stay for our vacation!

I am 95% we are going to go with the Bay Lake Tower theme-park-view, 1-bedroom suite. We have a friend that will let us rent their DVC points to make reservations there for a fraction of what it would be otherwise. (Still a pretty penny by our standards, though, that will take careful saving over the next year!)

Our children will be 12, 9, 5, and 2 when we go on this trip. This isn't our first Disney vacation, but it has been 6 years since we last went so only 2 of our children have been before. And last time we didn't stay on Disney property.

Bay Lake Tower sounds heavenly for many reasons. We love the idea of being able to walk to and from MK for naps and/or at the end of the night. We love the idea of being able to watch fireworks from our hotel room every night while the toddler sleeps. We also love the idea of having the 1-bedroom suite so that we will have plenty of room for all of us, and for the 2-year-old to not be right up next to all of us trying to fall asleep and/or nap when the rest of us want to watch fireworks or eat or play or whatever. It just seems like BLT would offer us so many conveniences that would make this a true vacation rather than making us feel like we just ran a week-long marathon by the end of it.

So those are our big reasons for leaning toward BLT.

But today I saw pictures of the Poly's pool. It looks AMAZING. And I know it isn't possible to walk to the Poly from MK, but the monorail sounds like an easy ride to and from there. And the price would be a lot lower and that's a huge factor..... but that would be because we would all be crammed into a standard-sized room. How easy is it to see the fireworks from the Poly?

Can anyone convince me that the Poly would be the best choice for us? Or should we stick with our original plan of booking the 1-bedroom theme-park-view room at the BLT?

Thank you for any help and input! We are very new to this!

I love the Poly and I think it's miles above BLT. However, that many people crammed into a standard Poly room is going to be very tight, especially with one bathroom. I just got back from a BLT stay. In a one bedroom you would have more space and two bathrooms. The walk to the MK is a huge advantage. Plus you would have the kitchen which would help if you want to have a quick breakfast in your room. You would also have a washer/dryer.

The resort monorail broke down while we were visiting the Poly and after waiting quite a while, we were told that it was going to take even longer than expected to get it running again.

A Poly Studio Villa? No way with your room count. I am the biggest Poly fan out there and love everything about that resort, but not sure that room type/layout would be best in your situation. :confused3

Have you looked closely at the room layout/pics of the Poly Studio Villas? I’d encourage you to if you haven’t already.

If it helps, I haven’t stayed BLT but have at CR many times and I love it there for many of the same reasons you cite for your BLT excitement.

We couldn't decide between the same two for spring so we are doing both!! But for your group I'd go all BLT. Studios are too small for that many people.
