My teenager (adult size) needs help from us with bathing. We are staying at POP Century and trying to decide which type of room to request, one with a regular tub/shower combo, shower only or a disabled room with shower. Any advice? She is developmentally/cognitively disabled but not physically. However, there needs to be room in the bathroom for me bathe her. I am worried about the new sliding doors making it tight or awkward. Any experiences at POP to share? Thank you so much.

I haven't been at the new rooms yet, but I would think the tub to be a problem. It has shower doors, which is going to be hard to access/reach her. For that matter, the new shower only is likely to be a challenge as well unless you intend to be in the shower with her. Personally, I would opt for an HA room as I *think* those still have shower curtains which I find easier for assisting my DD.

Enjoy your vacation!

Thank you! Are there rooms with an accessible shower that still have two beds? I probably need to ask this on the resort board, specifically the POP thread, as well.

Yes, they've been bumping out the angled doorways on the accessible rooms to make more space for 2 beds.

Enjoy your vacation!

THANK YOU! This is a relief. Now I need to contact my TA to add that to my reservation.

The new bathroom tubs do have door that slide but you it has a hand heal show head that you can take off the holder so if she can sit you can bather with out getting wet ( I hope this make since ) the new rooms are so nice stayed in one for a week

ETA... Sorry, I read too fast, and read "do" as "do not"... speed reading was never my strong suit :sad2:

That would be very helpful! Thank you for sharing your experience at POP.

INTERESTING... did they change that? I know it was a complaint. I have seen pictures of the refurbished POP rooms with a bathtub and sliding doors. I'll look for it. Is it possible you were in a Florida Special or wheelchair accessible room with tub?
no, I was not in a handicap room at all or an FL handicap room ( I was in 5332). There is a knob that turns on the overhead ( rain shower head) or the one on the wall or both if you take the one on the wall off only this one will work ( if I remember right it does not turn off but I only did this once ) the whole thing does move up and down or the poll, I think it would be very doable to have the door opened from the back and help someone and stay very dry if not all the way dry. with the new sliding door, the bathroom feels a little bit bigger too with more room to move in and out of the bathroom.

Was at Pop in non-HA room in April 2018. Had the large shower, no tub, glass doors. Has handheld and fixed (rain can) shower heads. No stool or bench. I was able to help DS outside the shower (me outside the shower) but YMMV. Can't find the photos I took of the bathroom but I'm sure there are many on the Pop renovation thread, under Resorts here.
ETA: not sure this will work, but an attempt to quote the post with shower photos (i.e., these are not my pics) from the Pop reno thread...

Not only are there two beds, but two queen sized beds! It's an awesome upgrade from the old full size beds they had.

My TA ended up calling Disney and explained our situation. They recommended a HA shower and changed our reservation to that room type. Thank you everyone for your advice. If anyone has photos of the new wheelchair accessible rooms and especially the roll in showers at POP I would love to see them!
