Bathroom etiquette

A lot of people purposefully leave the toilet unflushed after urinating. It's an attempt to save the planet. Their slogan is "If it's yellow, let it mellow..."

Before anyone flames me, I'm not advocating this disgusting behavior, I'm just reporting it.

Bathroom is only about 12 feet from my office. Besides, I am not touching anything in the bathroom except the doorknob and the thing to flush. I work in a medical environment and everyone is washing hands all the time. We are probably the cleanest place around. I just don't like to wash my hands.

This is probably one of the reasons both of my daughters have picked up staff from the doctor's office in the past 2 months....I don't care where you work...washing hands = less germs!

Oh thank you. Great suggestion. I did not realize that females did this. This is a problem in the men's room as well, but I attributed it to the fact that men, like animals, prefer to to mark their territory.

Yes unfortunately women can be gross! I like to think of those who sprinkle when they tinkle as "sprayers".
If you don't want to sit and you prefer to squat, please please please wipe off your spray!

Watch out for those JCAHO people, its this line of thinking that got some hospitals sited (inspectors hung out in the bathroom)...you need to wash your hands esp in a medical environment

Okay, I'm not trying to be the grammar police, I know it's just a typo, but when I first read this, I thought your DDs were picking up GUYS not germs!

And I agree with you - handwashing is VITAL to preventing the spread of disease, no matter if it's home, school, an office, a hospital, or anyplace else.

i find this thread a little disturbing. i always flush with the lid DOWN because the germs can fly out to about 10 metres if you leave it up. and i can't not wash my hands. its just wrong.

when i was at school, we used to turn on the dryer before we went into the stall. i still do that. it blocks out the noise

ME TOO!!!!! I honestly cannot understand why anyone would do otherwise

I also don't understand why anyone would not flush with their foot when they can especially in public restrooms.... EW!!!

Maybe I'm going a little too far but, if you're going to be making extreme noises when you're in the stall - would you mind trying to mask it just a little? Maybe a throat clearing, or sniffle, or cough, or turn the automatic dryer on before you go in.

Our office has air freshner spray in each stall....a courtesy spray goes a long way.

Why do women do this? Squat over a toilet and pee on the seat? Huh? Like thats going to protect you or something.
And then said pee on seat person never cleans up after herself and you sit on the pee seat. Many of us have issues with our knees and legs and can't straddle a toilet seat or don't want to. I just don't get it.

If I may add one more to your list for the female readers, please do not urinate on the seat. Many of us have to sit on the seat due to disabilities. If you are afraid to sit on the seat, lift it before urinating.

amen!!!!many women do the "crouch" thing,( to avoid sitting on the seat) and leave behind ... a wet mess!
others... carefully lay out toilet paper on the seat.... then... leave that behind! what makes these ladies think I want to use my hands to remove the toilet paper from the seat?

The "sprayers" are the worst in my mind. I don't understand the mindset of "I don't want to sit on that seat but it's okay to leave my mess for someone else to clean up....."

At work, I wash my hands and then use sanitizer the minute I get to my desk. I swear my place of employment is a breeding ground for every germ out there. We have a "co-ed" bathroom and it has 4 stalls. Though only 1 person use's it at a time. We have a closed and open sign on the door because it is co-ed and no doors on any of the stalls.

Anyhow, what I don't get is how my ds and dh can put the seat down at home but the men at work cannot give us the same courtesy. We've tried delegating the stalls-- 2 for the men they can always keep the seat up in and 2 w/ the seats down. Nope, usually weekly I'll go in and find all 4 seats up. I don't want to be manhandling a public toilet seat.

I don't wash my hands because I carry hand sanitizer in my purse and use it after I leave the restroom. I figure the door handle on the way out probably has the most germs in the place and you touch it after you would normally wash your hands.

I can't STAND the smell of bathroom soap, but I still wash my hands in the bathroom so people don't think I'm weird or something...then once I get out, I use hand sanitizer--it erases the smell of the bathroom soap I hate so much!

When it comes to men leaving the seat up, I am ok with that. We (women) generally ask them to put it up to not leave droplets on the seat so I think they already have to make an effort for me, I can make the effort to put the seat down for them.

I'd much rather he leave the seat up than not put it up at all

I have never been in a public restroom that has lids on the toilets.

I do put the lid down at home and in bathrooms in people's homes, but this has never been an option when out in public.

I'm with you, when I worked at the restaurant there was one employee bathroom and it never bothered me to put the seat down after one of the guys had been in there. I figured if they were nice enough to lift the seat, instead of peeing all over it, then it wasn't going to hurt me to put it down.

DH's Mom trained him well though, he always puts the seat back down.
