Ok, this might be a dumb question, but I'm a first time mom-to-be, so I don't have any experience yet. We're planning a trip for Jan, DD will be between 2-3 mos depending on when she decides she's ready to be born. I don't know when babies typically start being able to sit up on their own, but I didn't think it would be that early. If she can sit up by then, we'll just sit her in the bathtub and only fill it a little. What do you do with an infant for a week stay when they can't sit up? I won't be able to pack her bathtub. Sink? We're staying at Pop, are the sinks deep enough?

She will mostly likely not be sitting up by then. I also just shower with them. They do get pretty slippery though so you have to be careful. What I usually do is carry them facing me and wash their backs and feet first then take of the soap. Then put them in a cradle hold and wash their hair, face, and belly.

I've also layed down a towel on the bathtub and filled it with a little bit of water, then layed the baby on the towel and given them a bath.

when we travelled my husband would hand the baby to me in the shower and it was quick. Mind you, we didn't worry all that much about a bath every day.
As far as milestones go, my DD is almost 5 months and is just rolling over now. She's not sitting on her own. I'm not sure when they do that, but usually not at 2-3 months.

You baby will not be sitting up at that time. Either use the sink while the other parent hold the baby up, or take a bath together!

Consider bringing one of those baby bath large sponge inserts-- they are great for travel, are inexpensive and you can just throw it away when you are packing up to leave. Also, consider an inflatable baby tub or sling.

I've always bathed DD13mo with me, it's much easier on my back! It became more of a 'play time' too. I highly recommend one of the big spongy bathtub "thingies", they're great! They're lightweight, easy to pack, and you can toss it in the trash when you're done!

I'd probably lay a towel in the sink & do it there.

We took DS when he was 4 months and he sat up a little but not enough for the tub. I put a towel down in the tub and bathed him that way. There wasn't enough room in the sink area to do it there. He's 6.5 months now and I still put a towel down for him to sit on in the tub when he's in there.

There are small blow up tubs that are meant more for a 6 month old - but you could fill it with 1-2 inches of water and prop the baby up on the side and bath them on the floor in the bathroom or on the counter rather than in the tub/shower - this is what friends have done when traveling. I'm not big on the shower with the baby b.c they are so slippery. As long as you don't take your hands off the baby the blow up tubs are great. They fold up pretty compactly and only cost about $12-14.

I've always brought along one of these sponges or just use a folded towel on the bottom of the tub.

Have fun!

I'm sure she probably will not be sitting by then. Baths on the go are easy at this age. I always just washed their hair while leaning them over the sink and then sponge bathed their body or wiped them down with a baby wipe. They dont really get too dirty at this age unless they spit up or something.

It's the squirmy age around 6 months where it gets harder to bathe them. We went last year when my DD was 7 months....I filled up the sink and sat her in that, but it was still difficult. I dont really like to sit them in the bathtub that young. And I've tried showering with my babies, but they are just too darn slippery LOL!

I also bathed my daughter in the sink when she was that small. First we lined the sink with a plush towel and we used either a washcloth or a bath sponge to clean her off with. It was easier for me bathing her alone like this since it didn't require getting the baby tub down, filling it, putting her down somewhere to dump the water out, etc. Also, young babies don't need to be bathed as often as people think they do, since frequent bathing dries their skin out. I think it was Parenting magazine that said twice a week is good enough when they aren't able to move around much. :)

The sink will probably not be deap enough i've taken babies at 3 weeks nad 9 weeks in the pre-sitting stage and always just folded up a full sized towel and put in the bottom to mimic that spongething we use at home. As long as ou don't fill with much water in the tub they stick pretty well to the towel. To make it go pretty quick i'd use those presoaped disposable washclothes (you can use them in their hair as well). Huggies and Johnson's make them, plus it was one less bottle of anything to pack. I still use them on my 3 year old when we travel since regular body soap in hotels is too drying for him.

When I took my son at 3 months, my DH just held him in the sink and I bathed him with those Huggies disposable wash clothes. Only took a few seconds....very easy. We bathed him every other day in Disney.

I would also just lay her in the tub with a bit of water -not enough to go into her ears, and let her kick and splash (that't what i have done with my 3) - chances are she won't be rolling over yet much less sitting up. Have fun!!

I never bothered with an infant tub at home - we used the kitchen sink - or the bottom of the bathtub with a towel in it at home. And we only had "wet" baths once a week or so - I just sponged down my kids the rest of the time. They really don't get "dirty" until they start moving (as long as you wipe up the spitup and wipe good when you change them).

When my children were very small my sister's girlfriend had a child drown in the tub - so my kids were allowed to be fairly dirty.....
