Hi!

When we go to SSR next month our toddler will be 16 months old. I am a little concerned about her slipping and falling when we bathe her in the jacuzzi tub in our one bedroom. At home we use non-slip bath mats but we dont really want to pack one.

I know housekeeping have bedrails. Do they have bath mats? Otherwise I will buy one at the grocery store when we stop off for diapers etc

Do any of you who have little ones have any advice for me regarding safety or practical issues in the unit? We have a 2 bed lock off with friends using the studio portion.

Thanks Mandy ::MinnieMo

I would put one of the extra towels down in the tub before bathing. Definitely ask about a rubber mat though!

When our kids were that age, one of us would usually just get in the tub with them. This turned bath time into a fun play time, and was safer.

Thanks for your prompt replies folks. I can try the towel idea, that would definitely help.

I like the bathing together idea too. Last time we were in Florida she was 11 months old and after swimming I would take her in the shower cubicle with me to rinse off the chlorine and sunscreen. Now she can walk a bit she tries to move around too much and slips. But in the bath I could hold on to her better.

Also I bet I would get back ache leaning into the jacuzzi tub to wash her. We have a corner bath at home and that is fairly deep so it can be hard on your back.

Thanks again for the ideas.

There is a seat inside the jacuzzi tub. I usually fill the tub with enough water for my daughters, but not covering the seat. Then I climb in, sit on the seat, and bathe them. Be careful when you climb out, as the tiles are very slippery when wet. I usually put a towel down on the step, and a bathmat on the floor.

I've had the same problem with my children in those big whirlpool tubs. Most of the time, I just ended up getting in there with them.

You might want to check the sites of stores like Buy Buy Baby or the catalog One Step Ahead. I remember seeing a small inflatable tub that you can set inside a bigger tub for about $10.00. This would pack easily since you can deflate it when you're done.

Good luck!

I was gonna say the same thing! Babies love extra snuggle and play time with parents, even more fun with water involved, in addition to being the safest possible way to bathe your baby.

Our family of 5 looks forward to ALL getting into the tub at bathtime!!! Plenty of room!

A small capful of bubbles and we are really HOME!

Thought I would share a picture.... This is at OKW.

Laurabearz- You are my kind of Mom!!! I loved the picture. What fun!!

Mandy - we have had lots of fun getting in the tub with our little one. This trip though, my oldest was 4 and the twins 18 months. We put the twins in the tub with big brother and all thought this was the coolest thing. They were super pruney at the end. Dh & I each took a twin. Now they want to do this all the time!!;)

Great picture Laurabearz! What better way to save precious time at WDW but to all bathe together!!!

Thanks for posting!

Our tub at home is about the same size as the ones in the villas. We have quite a gaggle of small kids, and we'll bathe all of them at the same time.

One thing you'll notice is that even just an inch or two of water spread out in a big tub is plenty of water to bathe them with. You'll still need to be careful, but we find it easier to keep everybody under control than deeper water in a smaller tub.

We've given thousands of baths by now in a huge tub, and have never used a mat. (At least not since we got past our first child. With our first child we actually believed "babyproofing" could be achieved by spending money at Babies R Us.)

Instead, we make full use of our eyes, arms and mouth. ("Okay, pull your sister's head out of the water. I don't think she likes it.")

We also have a huge tub at home and when the kids were little, never did anything special but fill it just enough and let them splash. That and the "no standing in the tub" rule.

You do want to sit next to them, as even with no standing, sometimes their little rears slip out from under them.

Am I the only one who just bathes kids very infrequently? They don't sweat like adults, don't play in too much dirt at Disney and the food can be sponged off. With the pool, we usually only find a need to bathe the kids once a week - if even that.

One of the things you may consider is pulling the burners out of the stove - if your little one can reach the knobs. Other than that, the same stuff you do at home, depending on your level of "careful parenting.:

crisi, I confess, too. Our girls don't get bathed as often as they should while at WDW. You wake up early, go to bed late... I usually count pool time as a bath for them! (Shhh, don't tell anyone!) Course, my older daughter's long hair this time needed a good washing after a couple days. No other place but WDW! :hyper:
Funny there was a thread about this on the family board awhile back. Seems many use that late night dip in the pool as a "bath" for the kids! Good reason to get under that shower by the pool before jumping in! Now I realize why the BWV tiles look so bad... YUCK! :p

Our boys take a big tubby every morning and evening at DVC. The same as at home. Although after swimming as well, So I would say they bathe more at WDW , To get all everyones elses germs off of them. I figure they are touching all those railings! and sitting in all those sweaty seats!

When they were little we got in with them just like Laurabearz. Except for once when we were at OKW and I was videoing from the edge.... and one went under, Scary as he double L. And half on tape, before Mom dropped the camera and saved him.

Am I cracking up? Do the Boardwalk villas whirlpools have as seat in them? I don't remember?

twinmomplus2new, wow your kids get a bath every morning and night at home? Mine only get bathed at night and sometimes we skip it if we've been to the pool that night. In the winter I have to bath them every other night cause their skin gets so dry. Guess we're dirty?!?

Our girls are bathed about every other night as well, unless they have done something extremely dirty. My eldest DD was born with severe eczema and very dry skin, sitting in her own bath water breaks her out. So she has been showering since she could stand on her own (we use a handheld shower head), still she can only use cetaphil soaps and creams. I swear she breaks out if you look at her wrong.
From our experience with her and the many doctors we have learned that children do not need to be bathed everyday (Its nice but it is not necessary).
We wash them up every morning and thru out the day as needed. They are healthy, happy and they don't smell bad. :D

My son has eczema as well, which is probably why we have always been less frequent bathers. Plus my daughter had tubes, which made the whole bath thing difficult for a while.

(My son's eczema has been much better since we became a pet free household).

My youngest is on her second set. She FLIPS when water gets in her ears. Was yours the same way then?

Just kidding.

I get in the tubby with the little one, so can keep her from going under...

and bought a non-slip mat at home, and threw it out because didn't have enough room to carry home on airplane.

But then didn't have to worry about searching for one there at the grocery store, or inflated prices.

I love Wally world (wamart)!
