I am going to DW in January 2008. As my screen name indicates, I am a Detroit Pistons fan and season ticket holder. The Pistons are playing in Orlando when we are at DW and we can get free tickets to the Orlando-Pistons game. Does anyone kknow how far it is from OKW to the Magic's b-ball arena, the best way to get there (probably a taxi since we don't have a rental car), and the estimated cost each way? Will it be easy to get a taxi after the game

I assume that the game would be at Amway Arena, which is in downtown Orlando. Don't have a clue as to the best way to get there without a car though.

We did this a few years ago. I don't remember how much it costs but we had this site's sponsor Florida Tours pick us up at the BWV and drop us off at the arena. They picked us up right across the street after the game. I think it took about a 1/2 hour to get there but it's right off I-4 (which can be good or bad). We had a great time even though I think it was the only game in history that Tracy Mcgrady didn't score a single point.

Have fun.

it might be cheaper to rent a car for one day than cab service, which would cost much more.

It's about 25 miles to downtown Orlando from WDW property.

Unfortunately, the I-4 is the only way to get there. There's always a lot of traffic around Magic games and I'm afraid your taxi bill might skyrocket if you are stuck in traffic.

I'd suggest a rental car and make an evening out of it by going well before the game and coming back well after. There's of lot of neat things to do in downtown Orlando these days.

Does anyone know what parking is like, we purchased tickets off the costco site (they have a deal on tickets) and it mentioned that you could pre-purchase your parking ticket at the same time, kinda made me think that there may be a shortage of parking?

Moving to Transportation.....

It's at least a half hour drive from Disney to Amway Arena via I-4 but with rush hour traffic and game traffic delays on the the off-ramps and downtown streets and depending from how deep into Disney World you're originating, it could take considerably longer. A taxi could run $50 each way; if you luck out, less. Of course if traffic is too backed up you could pay the driver and hop out, once he's off I-4. Amway Arena is just a block west off the interstate. If you're looking on a map the Arena is near the intersection of I-4 and SR 50 (Colonial Drive).

There's NO WAY I'd suggest hopping out of a cab and walking unless you really know where you are going--one block in the wrong direction and you're into a really crappy and very dangerous area.

I also wouldn't drive there at night--I've been there many times and still find it confusing. In all honesty by the time you pay a one day rental and pay for parking it's only a bit more to take a car service. Plus if there is also an event going on at the Carr, parking is at a premium and can be hard to find if you don't know where you are going.

I'd strongly suggest that you use a car service. Relax and let them do the driving through what can be heavy traffic and confusing streets. That way you can have a few over priced beers at the game and get home safely as well. :thumbsup2
