Basin Bath Bombs question

Hi All,

I purchased a few of the bath bombs from the GF's store in August.

I'm trying to make them last as long as possible and was wondering if anyone out there had tips on how I could split them in half as even the smallest ones seem to provide more than enough "fizz" for one soak.

Thanks in advance!

I can't help you with Basin's -but I do make my own if you are interested I can post the recipe.

You may have an initial investment -but after you buy supplies you can make them for a fraction of the costs. Granted they won't be as pretty:)

I have used candy molds to make them- they can be even prettier!

I've only been able to find one technique that works: You can cut them with a hacksaw.

You'll need to buy an extra blade, because once you are through with cutting them it will be ruined for metal cutting.

I do not want to take over the thread but could you PM me how to make them ? I love the ones at Basin but I would love to try to make them here at home :thumbsup2

Ok, don't want to sound nieve :confused3 or gulible here, but, seriously , a hack saw?

OP -I wonder if you could break it with a hammer (wrap the fizzy in a cloth first -and then use the pieces?

Here is a link to the recipe -I hope you don't mind OP.

I use the one at the bottom called "super moisturizing"

I get my scents, citric acid and colors from an online company called Brambleberry. Shipping is expensive.

You could also find citric acid from a candy making store.

You could skip the colors altogether if you wanted. You could also use a drop or two of peppermint extract instead of ordering scents.

Yes, seriously, a hack-saw. I'm a practical sort. I had one handy, and it worked.

Hammers made a major mess with them, IME. The hacksaw cuts it nicely, with only a bit of dust. Ruining a hacksaw blade is not a big deal, unlike ruining a handsaw or a kitchen tool -- hacksaw blades are meant to be essentially disposable.

Do the ones you made make a mess in the tub? I bought some at a craft sale and yuk! What a ring they left in my tub. The basin ones are so nice I'm kinda spoiled.

Pammy - I like the basin ones too -so I am not trying to talk you out of those.

If you buy the right kind of colorant -no ring.
I buy the colorant that specifically says it does not mess up your tub.:)

I just take mine out after a little while and save it for the next bath. It still fizzes the next time.

I put a flathead screwdriver on the seam and tap lightly. It doesn't always break even, but good enough for me

In a plastic baggie, I hit the bath bomb at the seam on the corner of the sink. Usually it will break in half pretty evenly by doing that.

I have LUSH bath bombs(size of baseballs) and I keep a Ginsu knife in my bathroom drawer to split them.
I've tried smashing them on the tile floor, but split much better with the knife
and then I can quarter them too!!!
I LOVE baths, had to sit in all the tubs in all the new houses we looked at (clothed, I know what you are thinking....) before I would consent to buy!!!!:rotfl:
