There are some advantages of buying through Disney.
Advantages of Disney direct purchase
1. If you want SSR, and it's 50 year contract, Disney is the only place you'll be able to get it at this point.
2. Buying through Disney allows you to purchase exactly the number of points you want...with resale, you buy the points that someone has in their contract.
3. Financing through Disney is pretty easy, I understand.
4. You can choose your use year when you buy through Disney. Again, with resale you get the use year that is on the contract you are buying.
5. No haggling over prices.
6. No waiting for a sale to clear Disney's right of first refusal.
7. Faster closing time and ability to book trips.
8. No closing costs or other fees.
Advantages of resale:
1. You can usually buy at a lower cost per point than buying from Disney, even when you add in closing costs.
2. You can buy at resorts that are no longer sold by Disney such as OKW or BWV.
I'm sure there are other advantages/disadvantages....these are the ones that come to mind.
We own one contract purchased from Disney and one purchased via resale. One thing to note is that once you purchase, even if resale, you are treated exactly the same no matter who you bought from. There are no negatives from Disney's side if you purchase resale.
Each of our contract purchases was relatively easy and painless. The resale one saved us quite a bit of money per point.
