Basic Dining Plan - APPS for Age 3-9 only

I looked, but didn't see an immediate post about this, and the search never works for me. I seem to never be the first to post these things, so please delete or move it to an existing thread if I am on my usual "just too late" timeline". BUT

Hubby works for Disney Internet Group, and he just updated the link to a new Dining Plan PDF posted today. AND is says that appetizers are again on the plan. Was this old news already? Last I heard it wasn't included in 2008. But this clearly reads such on page 3, where it lists in detail what one can redeem their dining points for:

I also made note that it says
"Gratuities are not included unless otherwise indicated" (which we knew, but it goes on to say...)
"An automatic 18% gratuity charge will be added to your bill for parties of 6 or more. **An automatic gratuity charge *may be* added to your bill for items you order which are not included in the Disney Dining Plan (eg alcoholic beverages**"

What do they mean "may be". Either it should be a policy or not. No wonder so many of us have been confused when handed a bill for gratuity for 18%. It is "sometimes" done that way apparently...up to the restaurant/server?

Anyway, thought I would report in case it hadn't yet been discussed. I again apologize if it has.

Last personal note: I think this brochure is great, and is really comprehensive. But for the uninitiated, I think it looks WAY overly complicated and difficult to decipher. The plan is really quite simple, but when you write it all out like this it sure doesn't look like it!

It says appetizers for ages 3-9 ONLY, which is how it's been all this year.

I was all excited, and very surprised... but it does say Apps are for ages 3-9 only. I think that is a little weird... most kids don't want an appetizer, but I guess all of us adults won't get the appetizer!! Too bad!

That was there when I looked at that document when I booked our vacation for Christmas at the 11 month mark. My question back then was, is there a separate appetizer list for kids 3-9 or do they pick from the regular appetizer menu? For families that have kids, that could be a good deal. I know in our family of 5, we usually share 1-2 appetizers between all 5 of us. If we all get an appetizer, we'd end up not eating our entree.

I am doing the DDP for the first time in Sept but if I remember correctly while looking at some of the menus on allears.net, some of the kids menus had a choice between "Kids Pick's" such as...

Kid's Picks
Choice of one appetizer, one entree and one dessert $7.59

Appetizers
Garden Salad (edit: most have more then once app choice)

Entrees
Linguini with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese served with vegetables
Chicken Nachos - with green apples, celery and carrots
Hamburger with potato wedges

Desserts
Fruit Salad

or "Kid's Complete Meals" like this...

Kid's Complete Meals
Pizza with mozzarella and diced chicken (optional) served with veggies and brown sugar apples $7.59
Grilled Fish of the Day - served with whole-grain pilaf, veggies and yogurt parfait $7.59

That is what they mean by Apps for ages 3-9

The kids meals are "Complete" kids meals. Which means on the kids menu they will have appetizer, dinner, and dessert listed. Appetizers for kids are usually something along the lines of chicken noodle soup, small salad, carrots and celery with ranch..etc. Nothing at all like the appetizers for adults unfortunately.

Honest mistake! You may want to consider editing the subject of your original post, though, so others don't get all excited for no reason.

Yeah, but they're so worth it!! We just had dinner there on the DDP this past saturday. And we got our wings...YUM!

This brochure says it is for arrivals in 2008, and appetizers are for guests age 3-9 only.

Kids get an appetizer because the children's menus present all meals as "balanced" three-course meals in an attempt to include a serving of every food group. The first-course items are usually not what an adult would call an "appetizer;" it's usually something like raw vegetables or chicken noodle soup.

I am changing the title so that it doesn't cause a tizzy on the board.
