Another thread reminded of something that happened in our house a few weeks ago...

*******
Got a phone call from yet another telemarketer trying to sell me a credit card. Normally, I do what I always do -- hand phone to a very very thrilled 3 yr old dd, saying, "Here -- It's Princess (pick a name... or Prince Charming!) -- she/he wants to talk to you!" My dd proceeds to have a rather engaging conversation, freeing me to do other things, until she tires of it and hands it back, usually with the "Please Hang up your Phone and Dial again" message.

But this telemarketer immediately and excitedly told me how very DIFFERENT their card would be, and how I had NOTHING to compare to the benefits it would bring! Curious, I said I doubted it, but what the hey, try me.

Tele:"We give up to 1 percent on all your purchases!"

Me: "Really... 'up to', huh? I get a guaranteed 1 % on all purchases w/ my ToysRUs visa, plus 4% on TRUs pruchases, and 1% on my Disney Visa as well."

Tele: "Oh, but then you HAVE to use your TRUs earnings in a TRUs store, though, don't you?"

Me: "Yes... but I have 3 children under the age of 9. I assure you -- it's never an issue."

Tele: "But we have low, low, LOW interest rates!"

Me: Sorry, I pay off my cards every month. No balances. And even if I got desperate, I still have a few months of zero interest left on my Disney card anyway.

Tele: But with our card, you can earn vacations! Do you like to go on vacation?

Me: Sure...

Tele: So where do you like to go?

Me: WDW.

Tele: (very excited) Well, GREAT! Because with OUR card, you can earn dollars towards a wonderful Disney Vacation!

Me: My Disney card earns me 1% on all purchases, which can be applied towards WDW vacations, if I want.

Tele: But our card could pay for discounted accommodations!

Me: Ummm, nope, we're Disney Vacation Club members, so accommodations are pretty much all paid up for next 39 yrs.

Tele: "Oh, I see...." (getting desperate but suddenly inspired) "But, hey, you could earn airline tickets to Disney!"

Me: We drive....

Tele: What about rental cars...

Me:...our own van.

Tele: Oh. (silence). Well. (long pause) then, ahem. I guess you have it all covered, don't you...

Me: Yup. (feeling smug)

Tele: Well, just in case you change your mind, I'll give you my number, for you to write it down...

Me: Sure.... have you got a pencil?

Tele: Me? Why would I need a pencil?

Me: Well, I thought maybe YOU would like the numbers for DVC, Disney Visa and ToysRUs Visa...

Tele: No, that's not necessary, I don't need those numbers!

Me: And neither do I need yours. Good night!

Of all of the ways I've heard of ditching telemarketers that is the funniest! Keep up the good work!

That was some FAST thinking! Too Funny!;) Thanks for sharing your story.:teeth:

OUCH!!! I used to feel the same way about telemarketers until my DH pointed out just how little they are paid and the crap they put up with. I agreed but still felt they should find another line of work. But, in my current job, I know how hard it is for people to find work and that a smart person will do whatever it takes to pay the bills and put food on the table, no matter how hard or degrading the job. Ya do what ya gotta do! Now I feel sorry for these people and try to be very polite, but with a firm no thanks. Their job has to stink. Telemarketers has also one of the highest turnover rates. I wonder why? And the pressure that is put on them for sales? Unbelievable! I work with a group of ex-telemarketers. I'm sure the Disney Visa card though has become a telemarketers dream. $$$$$$$$ But then I'm just being nieve to think that everyone loves Disney.
