My ds12 wanted a heartguard shirt this year for baseball. It was quite expensive and I'm afraid he'll decide he doesn't want it after he wears it and it can't be returned. Does anyone's kids wear these and what do they think of them. He got the Under Armour - said he feels like Iron Man in it.

We make our boys wear them after t-ball, about age 7 and up. I've heard bad stories about kids getting hit in the chest with the ball. Ours wear them just fine!

I'm glad this was posted. My ds-9, is playing baseball this year. He's always played lacrosse and wore a chest protector as goalie, but I never thought about him needing something for baseball. :scratchin

My son doesn't play baseball but I would be sure to buy him one if he did. We got him all of that stuff for football and I think it makes him feel better protected.

Our DS always wore one for baseball as we didn't want him getting hurt. He was okay wearing it until a little punk on his team kept making fun of him telling him he was a wimp and a baby for wearing it. He did not want to wear it after that but we insisted. Better safe than sorry. Unfortunately, he did not want to play baseball at all this season. :(

DS14 has worn one for a few years now. Depending on the style, he may wear a lightweight UA shirt under but if it is the full shirt style, don't think it would be necessary.

Praying it is never needed, but feel better knowing it is there in the worst case. I'm always very disturbed when I read of a young player hit in the chest by a ball with bad outcomes.

I think it is great he wants to wear one.

If your child wants one, I would get it.

Having said that, I was on the Board of Directors of a Little League with 400 kids for 6 years and I have never seen a heartguard shirt in person.
