Baseball 09

This thread is great! I'm still a beginner and I'm sort of learning as I go. I'm still using a P&S until I can save up the $$ for a DSLR. I'll have some pics to post later tonight hopefully!

We finally had our first game after a rain out last week.... got another one this week too. Lots of fun. Its great to see the kids improve each week:

I know what you mean about the rain outs! We even had a "snow out" for one of our games in early April. It was 70 degrees and sunny on Monday and then Tuesday it was 35 and snowing! Crazy western North Carolina weather! Anyway, here are a couple of my pictures. The first 2 are my DS7 and the second 2 are my DNephew5...

Wow, 7 years old and in full catchers gear. They just put our 7 year olds way behind the plate with a helmet.

Nice pic's, btw.

Thanks! This is his 2nd season in full gear. He's a great catcher (even if I am a little biased)! His uncle and I were both catchers, so I guess it must run in the family!

I was a catcher too. My knees are paying for it now though. I'm not sure when they start putting them in full cathers gear in our league. I think next year at age 8. This is also my 7 year olds 2nd year. He's doing very good. Though some of the other kids in his league looks like they need a few more years of T-ball.

Lots of fun this year watching the improment the kids have made over last year.

Nice form for DS on this grounder:

Nice pics everyone!

I have a question for those of you who may know. Many of you know that I am a photographer for one of the Cape Cod baseball league teams in the summer. One aspect of this that I had a real hard time with last year was posing the team for a team pic. These are college kids and there are about 30 or so of them. The team pic I got last year did not have enough photo ratio for me to be able to crop in nice and close in 8x10 to see them all nicely. Still seemed to be too much space on top and bottom of the photo. I want to fill an 8x10 with the players and not have so much grass and sky in the pic. Any suggestions on how to do this properly? I want some area of grass on the bottom for the team name and year to be photoshopped in but also would like to be able to see their faces better with a tighter crop. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I agree nice pictures. I am looking forward to the cape league
starting and maybe I will also have a few Pictures to post then.
Hey Andy looking forward to seeing you at a couple game. Hey
Kyle maybe I will get to see you also.

Since DD plays softball I've been taking photos of her and her team. So
I have no baseball ones at this time.

PoohJen that is a great photo.

I think softball should count for this thread too! Post away!:thumbsup2

My son's team plays year round, but for reasons I won't get into here, they are hardly playing any games this season! :scared1: It has me so sad, every weekend that goes by and I don't get to see my son play baseball.:sad1: and I can't take baseball photos!:headache:

Another beautiful weekend forecasted here, no baseball for us. So all of you, enjoy your children and your games this weekend, and post those pictures!:thumbsup2

Could you use bleachers or some other type of a riser and have 4 rows or so of players?

I CAN use them but am told that they want the players on the field. We dragged out a row of benches last year for some of the players to stand on in the back. I could use one more row, a bit higher probably. Then I would have one row of players sitting on the ground, one standing, one standing on benches and one even higher...... hmmm..... something to think about.

As great of a job they've done with that field, there isn't much for bleachers that can help.

I checked out a few MLB team pictures throughout the years.

Some that I like have a few players sitting indian style on the ground, then the next row has 10-12 guys sitting in chairs, then the next row has 10-12 guys standing, then the last row a few guys standing on chairs.

Then you can cropy it panorama style and put the team name and player/coaches names under that.

Here are a few links (thanks Pean-n-Me for the idea):
Unfortunately this is a Yankee's pic, but I like the style:

Here's an older Red Sox team shot (not a great angle):

and another old Sox shot (not to clear, but then again it is from 1960):

You'd have to base where to set the team up for the photo based on what time of day. You'll have to do it in the outfield if its later in the day. Maybe with the scoreboard as the background. This will also give you better light. In front of the home dugout wouldn't be to bad either, this would give the bleachers as the background.

Just some thoughts.

Cool idea. Thanks guys! I will look into the MLB ones and I also think that the Gatemen have plenty to look at from previous years as well. I am planning on taking the photo earlier in the season so that I can take it again if necessary. Basically they like to have an 8x10 format with a little bit of grass down bottom so that the team name and year can be photoshopped in. I wish I didnt fail so bad last year. I can't have that happen 2 years in a row.

Well high school season is done here now.......:sad2:

But it's time for travel ball.......:cool1:

Pic will be up soon. I'm having server problems. Once it's up, my son is the one who looks like he's eating second base.

Can't post any WDW shots yet but I do have baseball pix! My 12 year old pitching for the first time this year, and doing a bit of the catching. It's a 6th grade team so they're still learning. I love catching the facial expressions .. the concentration is embedded on their faces!
