We are going to disney in May. i haven't decided if we are going to do the park hopper. When I was checking ticket prices.....It is only about $12.50 for my whole family to add an additional day (base tickets). Could we go to Animal Kingdom during the day use a ticket, then if we decided in the evening to go to the Magic Kingdom use another ticket??? Thank you!

Welcome to the boards!!!

No. To go to more than one park in a day you have to have the hopper option.

I was told that you can do that and that it would use 2 days of tickets, so I would love to see what others have to say. I have never done it so I don't know, but I can see how it would not work.

No, you can't use another day of your ticket to go to a different park on the same day. You must either have a hopper pass or a completely separate ticket.

You must either have a hopper pass or a completely separate ticket.

This is my understanding, too. If you had a separate one-day ticket, you could use it to enter the second park, but you can't use two days from a multi-day pass. When you try to enter the second park, the multi-day pass will pull up an error code saying it's already been used at a different park that day.

It is not allowed - sorry, they've thought of this 'loophole' and everyone would rather pay the $2 extra for an extra park day rather than the $55 for the park hopping option - so they don't allow it. It isn't that you're buying 7 one day tickets - it is that you are buying 7 days worth of entrance to a park (a SINGLE park if you don't have park hopping). So if you are only going for 6 days - you are using 6 of those days of entrance and can only use the 7th on a different day.

Do a search...this is just about the MOST asked question here on the DIS (usually in the Theme parks board) and has been answered many hundreds of times.

The ticket sticky on the theme park board addresses this. You can find it here (post 15): http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1452684

I have a base ticket for eight days, although I will only be spending six days in the Parks. The day I have for Animal Kingdom I also have a dinner reservation at Epcot. May I use one of my “extra” days for evening admission to Epcot?

A base ticket is one major (theme) park per day. You are allowed to re-enter the same park if you leave it on one day, but it can only be used at the one park.

Note that the ticket will state on it either "Not Valid For Park Hopping" or "One Theme Park Per Day". That should be a hint.

If you put the ticket in the turnstile of another park the display on the Guest side of the turnstile will be "ACCESS DENIED". The top line of the display on the Greeter side will give information about the ticket, and the second line of the display will say "CROSSOVER NOT PERMITTED". The turnstile will not unlock.

This is because Disney charges $3.00 per day over four days on an adult ticket, but charges $52 to allow hopping. It does not make economic sense for Disney to allow this.

Wouldn't it be great if you could...you could just buy a 10 day ticket and save a fortune

Not unless you have two separate one day tickets - which would be much more expensive than a hopper.

Think of the tickets in terms of the number of actual days vs a number of visits. If you buy a 6 day ticket it will be one ticket and will allow you into the themparks on six separate days. The turnstyles will know what parks you visted and if you have hopping. If you visit MK in the am and try to visit AK in the pm without the park hopper option you will be denied entry. The turnstyle will not just deduct another visit or day from your total.

And that's why it costs more to add hopping to your pass than just add a few more days. Disney isn't really so dumb.

When you arrive at the second park that day (Magic Kingdom in the example above) and your base ticket is rejected at the turnstile, here are some things you can do (a few obscure limitations apply):

1. Go to the nearest ticket booth and add the hopping feature (a one time addition) to your ticket.

2. Return to the park you were last at.

3. Get out a different ticket card. If you are attending the Very Merry Christmas party or something like that (Extra Magic Hours don't qualify) and arrive after 4 PM, you don't need your regular ticket at all; just your party ticket lets you in.
