Just returned from a wonderful week at WDW. However, one evening after the fireworks we were walking with the herd in front of the castle when I heard the roar...of vacuum cleaners!@! Baron,I immediately thought of you. After a wonderful evening with DD5 enjoying Spectro, and the fireworks the Magic was suddenly unplugged. It was almost like someone was forcing us down the street, and out the door! Bad Show!

Geez...Don't agree with him. His head will be so big he'll have to walk AROUND the castle on his next trip!!!:jester:

Personally I think they should just incorporate thie sweepers into the finale...You know music, lights on the hoovers, dancing maintenance men...Hey if they offered guest participation they could probably save on salaries. You know WDW guests are always chomping at the bit to be selected for a show...Any show...

Hmmmm....

Sorry, Pete, but that show would suck.

I can just see the merchandising now...die cast sweepers with Mickey, T-Shirts "Disney Cleaning Crew" featuring Goofy...oh the possibilities!

LOL, literally.

But think about the sponsorship opportunites...Hoover, Oreck, Kirby.

There could even be a thrill ride where guests are sucked up into a large vacuum cleaner and are saved by the true HEPA filtration system. Honey I Vacuumed the Kids. The attached gift shop could sell Disney branded vacuum attachments like wands for cleaning the blinds or ceiling fans.

Think of all the possibilities...Who said vacuums were bad show...

The more you go, the more you'll find the Baron to be right about! :)

Yeah, be sure to let the abscence of Mickey Butter at the California Grill bother you and if you happen to actually see some painting being done, keep thinking about it until it boils over and ruins your day...Oh and please don't get me started with burnt out light bulbs... This could permanently dampen any plans for a return WDW visit:rolleyes: :p

If you're looking for a list....

  • The maintenance being done during the day
  • the shortening of park hours
  • the "herding" mentality throughout the complex (Park A is closed, but premium spot B is open).
  • general stagnation of the complex over the past few years (granted it's slowly being turned around))
  • The whole Early Entry debacle
  • lack of maintenance @ the marketplace (those lego monsters looked GROSS last time I was at WDW).
I can go on Pirate. Just because a straw hasn't hit you yet, doesn't mean they aren't falling....

Speaking of the Baron, he (and many of the old regulars) have been quiet lately.

Does anyone else feel as though the board has become more tranquil over the past several months?

And just to add my favorite 'cut back':
-Lack of beach cleaning/combing at hotels
I dare you to walk onto the beaches at the Poly, Beach Club, etc without finding a cig butt or plastic cup every three steps. The sand is getting icky.

Sounds more like ickey guests.
When I go to WDW, I have a tendency to be a cleaner, more thoughtful person, not piggy and thoughtless.

Sounds more like ickey guests.
True, but unless Disney is going to bar ickey guests at the gates, they're going to have to clean up after them.

lol!

i really do not post here much- but i had to share!

when we were recently there, my dh & i staked out prime parade seating. he left to go get us snacks and i almost lost a foot to one of these scary vacumes!!! the guy came out of no where and then was angry that i was in his way (his words exactly).

it kind of made me sad to see him vacuming while it was still light out, and to see people painting etc.

Nah!! Your imagination’s running wild. Just becoming more ZEN-like!! Ooohhhhmmm.

Peter, my favorite Pirate!! At it again, eh?
Geez...Don't agree with him. His head will be so big he'll have to walk AROUND the castle on his next trip!!!
TOO LATE!! I already have to!! Know why? Because…
The more you go, the more you'll find the Baron to be right about!
Thanks HB2K!!! But modesty prevents me from agreeing with you and I only used the quote to show the Pirate why the castle cannot accommodate my head already!!!

And while we’re at it – Thanks to Plutospup for bringing it up again!!

And you’re right airbornearmywife, it is very sad indeed!!!

You know that during my last major trip down there I had a meeting with Phil Holmes, the VP of the MK. At that meeting many things were discussed. He used a typical businessman/client “marshmallow responses to every one of my more major issues and I guess you could call them esoteric complaints. Things like different closings times for different rides, the sales of ‘shiny cheap trinkets’, park hours, ending the night on an event (that herded cattle feel), etc. To all these he either pointed to “Corporate mandates” (what Scoop would call ‘Burbank’) or surveys saying I was wrong!! The people actually appreciated closing the park early!! That way they had more time to either recuperate or see the rest of WDW!! (How’s that for spin!!)

Anyway, the last item I brought was the vacuums!! He was actually a little taken aback. I described as best as I could, while still maintaining a modicum of humor and politeness. Then I told him. NAME, it really SUCKS!! To have such a perfect night DESTROYED by this insane noise was unconscionable!! Now, I know you have direct control!! No mandates here. And I don’t think you can show me a survey that says the guests really like the vacuums. Please!!! Please!! Do something about that!! OK?

Surprise, surprise!!! He said he would!!! He said he would put an end to that because he agreed that it did take away from the magic.

I shook hands and bid him a magical day!!

HEY!!! NICE JOB PHIL!!!!

I can’t stand it!!! It drives me crazy the way……

Oppps!! Sorry!! (zen, zen)

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmm…………

How'd you swing that?!?!? By chance or design? Any way - I'm glad you were able to share your (and that of others that agree with you) opinion about certain issues. While the responses were.... predictable... at least you had the chance to voice your concerns to someone other than a CM paid to put you on the path of least resistance.

And when can we expect this change? I'm visiting for a week starting the Wednesday after Labor Day. I'll be on the lookout for small zamboni-type vacuums (or a lack thereof if all is magical© again).

BTW Baron - I might have missed it, but did you ever post your annual "state of the world" address for this year yet???

Herr DVC-Bigmelon,
...I had a meeting with Phil Holmes, VP of MK...
Yeah, thats a real sure fire way to have fun on vacation!

The Barons Disney, chronologically: Lets take the negatives you barely if ever saw in the beginning and elevate it to being ticked off when actually looking for things to be wrong while on vacation (MY GOD MAN!) to now actually setting up meetings to discuss your percieved problems (YIKES!!!)...Yeah, you sure know how to vacation my big noggened friend!;) :jester: :p

DisneyKidds...THIS is happening to YOU!:jester:

Peter I'm guessing your joking a bit here, but it's not hard to see what's happening around you, and it does tick you off. If I've invested in DVC (I.E. I've got a vested interest in the parks), I'd speak up too.

It is kind of hard to ignore the roar of a monster vac while you're trying to listen to "the kiss goodnight." Or was that part of it? If so then it's highly overrated and not romantic at all! If anything was being broadcast over the speakers then they were completely drowned out.

Too bad that was our only opportunity to watch it. With my luck, the next time I'm there the exact same thing will happen!
