Barnes and Noble question (about exchanging)

I got 2 books for the holidays I already own. Could I exchange them at B&N without a receipt?? Get store credit, like you do at places like Wal-Mart?

Also, does anyone know if Best Buy does this as well?

Barnes & Noble will give you a gift card to use as your store credit in any of their stores.
