Barky dogs

I'm dog sitting my Mom's Westie today and that dog NEVER shuts up. She barks at everything and anything and even at nothing. Any anti-bark tricks?

Today is Westie day on these boards. Westies are known barkers. Mine has calmed down now at four. I used a Coffee Can with Marbles. When the dog barks shake the can. The loud noise will Scare Her a bit. Do it only when the barking is excessive. You don't want the dog not to bark when the burglar is downstairs cleaning out Grandma's Silver. Westies Love, Rather Demand Attention, Maybe that is what she/he wants.

My moms Pomeranian is the same exact way! She barks at everything and nothing. Mom has windows all around the Sun Room in her room.....the whole room is windows and I swear Macey barks when a leave falls! She drives me insane! I finally think I have learned to tune her out.

My black lab/boarder collie mix loves to bark, but HATES loud noises! Soda can with pennies worked like a charm!

The only other option, and some dog lovers don't approve of this method, is a special battrey power collar that zaps the dog when they bark. My old neighbor used it on their boxer when nothing else worked. It did the trick! I guess the shock does hurt, but it's not that bad, just enough to get the point across.

Squirt bottle with water in it. Added bonus, it entertains DD3 and DD6 to stand by with the bottle just waiting for little doggie to bark.

I wet my hands, then I point at him, and let a couple drops of water fly off and hit him while I say "QUIET!" Pretty soon, you can skip the water part. Funny to see a 120 lb dog flinch from drops of water!

I actually got Macey really good this summer! We bought one of those $400 dollar inflatable pools from Wal-Mart. First let me tell you it is the best money we EVER spent! We have lived in that pool....but anyway mama let Macey outside like she does everyday the day after we put the pool up. Macey takes a b-line to the pool and starts barking and barking and running around the pool and barking...so I picked her up and threw her in! She paddled around so lady liked. I laughed and put her out....needless to say she hasn't barked at the pool....LOL!

Use a small water pistol and only use it when the dog barks. It doesn't hurt them, but annoys them, and it won't take long for them to realize the offensive behavior.
