Has anybody ever tried to bargin with Disney, while buying points? I am thinking about an add-on, but I think I should get a little something else. I just wonder what they will say

If you mean "bargain" as in dealing with many other timeshare developers, you may be disappointed - although many have reported getting a meal voucher, ice cream or a fastpass after taking the tour, whether they purchased or not.

of course, it never hurts to ask; but i am really intrigued and wondering why you would think that you "should get a little something else", and what it is that you think you should get?

we bought our 75 point add-on last may when dvc was giving comp park day passes - did you not get that opportunity?

There are waiting lists for the sold out resorts. Disney deals from a position of strength, so they don't need to give you anything. Why do you think you should get something "extra" that they didn't give the other 100,000 members?:confused3

What "something extra" were you thinking would apply?

Please let us know how the bargain shopping goes and good luck. :hippie:

Ok, first let me apologize for the misspelling of the word Bargain. That's what happens when you're caught up in a frenzy of wanting to buy buy buy more points, as if I don't already have enough. Two years ago, I was on a Disney Cruise, and they were offering little incentives to DVC's that purchased an add on, on the cruise.... at least thats what I was told. What the incentive was, I have no idea, but hey real estate is real estate. When I bought my home, I at least got a bottle of wine out of it. So I just figured with the 100,00 others out there, somebody had to have at least asked....thats all did't mean to ruffle any feathers.

No feathers ruffled, but I think DVC gives us plenty of incentives from time to time for add-ons, and it's up to us to take advantage of them or wait for the next one to come along. Stay tuned, because I expect a new members only incentive shortly before they start selling AKV.

If you're interested in adding on at SSR, the $86/pt incentive price (mininum purchase: 115 points) is a great deal. That's $15/pt off the list price ($101). Though they usually offer some kind of discount there, it's usually only $8-$10/pt. This particular promotion ends on Jan 20th. There have been other deals at SSR in the recent past such as a free AP. There was a minimum purchase for that deal too but I don't remember what it was.

When I added on at VWL I got a nice lithograph of VWL and a large, high quality DVC tote bag.

They have offered discounts on points at VB and HHI in the past -- the price was dropped to $87/pt (from $92/pt) but I don't know if that is still available.

If you're asking if they will offer something to you that is above and beyond what everyone else gets, I doubt it. DVC doesn't work that way.

My understanding is guides have NO leeway to bargain...the price is the price, and the same incentives are offered to everyone (at a given time).

When we were first buying in 2001, I asked our guide about this. He told of a person who wanted the "in person" promotional price that was being offered, but he decided he wanted it after he left Orlando. The only way for him to get it was to get back on a plane and come back and sign the papers in person. No bargaining, no making an exception....that was 5 years ago, but I don't think DVC would want to deal with the fallout of cutting deals with individuals that weren't widely available or well documented.

You're buying DVC, not a used car ;)
