I wanted so bad to try Bare Minerals as I would see it on QVC all the time. (I'm a QVC-aholic!) So for Christmas 2005 I asked for the "starter kit". They sell them online at Sephora.com. It came with all the necessary essentials for start up use for about $60 or so. I have been addicted to them ever since!! I would definitely give it a try. The way I figured it was I used to use Clinique and one bottle of foundation was about $20, so for $60 I got to try new products and it came with brushes and all that jazz.
At first I was also skeptical that it wouldn't have as much coverage, and I do have to admit, it doesn't cover completely as much as liquid, but it's still very very good. One of my problems in the beginning was finding something to use as a concealer. You can't use a creme concealer at all with the bareminerals foundation because the powder won't sit on your face correctly. So I did some research and found that Bare Minerals had some products that I could use for concealer even though that's not what they called it. I use "Well Rested" and sometimes "summer bisque" to cover my redness and dark circles under my eyes (with the special brush, you absolutely need to use their brushes!!) and then I use the foundation over the top. I also now use their other products like shimmery eye shadows and blush.
They are great products, I would say if you have some problem blemishes, to buy the starter kit and also do a little research on their website or sephora.com and buy one of the "bisques" to use as a concealer. "Well Rested" and summer bisque both have a yellowish undertone that helps cover up red.
All in all, I haven't touched another makeup since starting Bare Essentials. They do take some time to get used to, especially since it's not "instantaneous" makeup like a liquid is. YOu have to wait a minute or two before you see the complete coverage. Don't worry, you get the hang of it in a few weeks! I couldn't imagine using anything else now.
