Bare essentials in the park

We're not bringing a backpack - I just have a purse/cross strap bag that I wear, but it isn't very big. We are staying at the DLH, so we'll be going back for breaks.

What are the bare essentials you would bring? So far I'm thinking:

Money/cc
Cell phone
Camera
Sunscreen
Lipbalm
Bottle of water

Anything else you can think of? My kids are 9 and 6.

park hoppers...

But the Sunscreen and LipBalm can be applied before going to the parks and since you are going back to the hotel for breaks you can reapply then. You can also buy and water at parks or get for free from fountain.. so then you are left with:

Money/CC
Camera
Cell Phone
Parkhoppers

All of which can fit in a small sling type camera bag! :thumbsup2

get one of those belt clip on sunscreens and have one of your kids be in charge...also a lanyard works great to keep the tickets and fast passes in for ready access.

I agree with CrazyDuck the sunscreen and lip balm can be left behind, because of the fact that you are going back to the room. Anti-bacteria hand wipes are a must in my book. I would bring water unless price is no object. Water is pricey. You can get free band-aids at the first aid station in DL. Bring extra batteries for your camera, but leave them in your room. I tend to over pack. :lmao::tink:

I carry just a little purse too.
I agree with hand sanitizer. I don't touch my face or food before using it.

Oh, and I also put my phone inside a plastic baggie in my purse on wet rides.

And I bring lipstick, as opposed to lipbalm. Priorities, you know. ;)

:rotfl2: I think I carry almost all of the items listed in this thread (by everyone) - minus the diaper wipes. I always tell myself that I will just put the "bare essentials" in my Baggallini, but it ends up being a heavy load. I normally end up with these things:

Camera (which may stay in the Bagg or around my neck) - and I may have more than one kind of camera with me at any given time
Extra battery & memory card for the camera (inside the Bagg, because I don't want to be stuck without them if I need them)
Cell Phone (goes outside the Bagg)
Water (goes outside the Bagg)
Rx Glasses w/ hard glasses case (goes inside the Bagg)
Rx Sunglasses/sunglasses case (goes in the outside pouch of the Bagg)
Tickets/Hoppers
Wallet with money/ID/coins/any other necessary cards to use at DLR, i.e., AP, Disney Visa, gift cards, Rewards Card, etc.
Pen & piece of paper
Hairbrush
Hair clip (to put my hair up if it gets too hot)
Lip Balm & powder/compact/mirror - I have to have lip balm and powder w/ me
Sunscreen (I have to carry mine with me and reapply often or else I burn to a crisp)
Hand wipes (like Splash n Go) for those sticky meals
Travel size hand sanitizer
Motrin or other pain reliever
Small pill box thingy, with Zantac for tummy and sinus medication
Band-Aids or foot blister block things
Travel size lotion
Breath mints OR my favorite Listerine breath strips
Couple of small plastic bags
Travel size Kleenex/tissue packet (absolutely necessary for me)

( and Sherry E brings a stroller to haul all that stuff in) :rolleyes1

Finally, someone who packs just like me! I am always the "go to" person if you should need anything because, you name it - I carry it! I even carry the travel size lysol and tolietseat covers:rotfl2:

Hee hee!:rotfl2: Eventually I will get to stroller status - which would be pretty sad since I have no children!! Right now it's just a heavy Baggallini slung around me. The Bagg has a lot of good compartments, so lots of encouragement (enabling) to stash small things!!

Oh, a kindred spirit!!:rotfl2: I'm the go-to gal as well! All of these things are necessary! I use all of them! I would be lost without my glasses, my Motrin, my Listerine breath strips and my hairbrush. I hadn't thought to carry the travel size Lysol yet - I wonder how I forgot about that? (Note to self: get travel Lysol before next DLR trip!;)) The toilet seat covers are not a bad idea either!:rotfl2:

Don't you get annoyed being the "go to" person. Because people know you have stuff (like sunscreen) they don't bother to bring or put on their own. Then they ask me to use my little emergency bottle I carry with me to the parks and I want to say NO! LOL.

Lipbalm is a must. Has to be applied every 15 minutes. :) Hand sanitizer is a must too.

I know exactly what you mean! (And I bet disneymama83 does too!) I get asked for lotion (from my tiny travel bottle). I get asked for Motrin. I get asked for tissue. I get asked for hand sanitizer. On and on. And then, if we are staying at a hotel, I look at what my friend packed and she seems to barely have anything with her - or what she does have with her she manages to seamlessly get into one small overnight bag. Then it dawned on me - why does anyone have to bring anything with them when I have it with me?:rotfl2:

In fact, last year my friend tried to go and get something (like stomach meds) from the First Aid center in DL...and they either didn't have it or they wouldn't give it to her. So I had to whip out the ol' Zantac and hand it over.

I have to reapply the lip balm any time I eat or drink something, if not more often. I can't leave it back at the hotel.:scared1:

The lists from the first few posters sounds about right. Just got back from 6 days and I too was the "go to person" :rotfl:

To make the bag a little lighter I found that most food venues had the hand wipes for messy meals. At River Belle Terrace they are with the condiment bar so easy to pick some up if needed.

Band-aids or other small items for blisters and small cuts are great. Yes, can get some at first aid, but if you are on other side of park with a blister on a little ones foot traveling over there could be more of a pain than just carrying some with you. And they are light and take up almost no room.

Sunscreen, to me even staying at GCH, was a must to carry. we all burn very easily and my DD has her surgery scar that had to be reapplied with sunscreen a lot. Not a risk I am willing to take, especially with the chances of getting wet on some rides and not knowing exactly when we would be back at room to reapply.

Other than that,

phone
cameras
spare memory card
park hoppers
lanyard for pins and fast passes - these occasionally went in to the bag.
tylenol/ibuprofen
tissue
sunglasses
vinyls for trading
bottle of water and bottle of soda - heavy yes but helps cut back on some costs. Von's had a great sale on both. :)

Other than that it just depends on you and the kids needs. I had a smallish backpack that we traded of carrying and it fit everything without being too heavy. Easily fit on rides and at times even had my pro camera in it.

"Don't Forget Your Angry Eyes!", said in an annoying high pitched voice. Couldn't help myself!

But seriously, ear plugs, ponchos, light sticks, and possibly game systems if you are in for a long two hour wait:)

I don't love being the go to person for anyone other than my family. I like to keep them comfortable so we can have nice long sessions in the parks.

My basics for going anywhere always include my driver's license and medical insurance card. Just never know when an emergency may occur, and I like knowing that I have identification.

And I would include sunglasses for Disneyland.

Yes, ponchos! The little dollar store kind. The one time I didn't have them in my bag at Disneyland it rained and rained. kicked myself as I ended up buying the disney ones which are too big and bulky to carry around regularly. At DL you can get by without ponchos on some days. But at WDW, you have to have them with you all the time.
